Recruitment Number 25-190LM, Juvenile Counselor I (Male/DL), SR-16 – Honolulu, Oahu. Immediate temporary/on-call vacancies.
Work Location:
Home Maluhia shelter in Honolulu, Oahu.
Gender-specific: male.
Shift: rotating shift basis. Available to work weekends, nights, holidays, and outside normal hours. Intermittent (on call) work hours range from 0-40 hours per week depending on department needs.
TestingAll applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will be required to pass an Attitudinal Test to be eligible for employment consideration. Qualified applicants will be notified by email to schedule the test, which is administered in Honolulu, Oahu only. Candidates must report in person. Only those who pass the test will be eligible for consideration.
Summary of Duties- Performs therapeutic counseling and allied rehabilitative services of a simple nature in accordance with defined policies and procedures and supervisory instructions.
- Interviews juveniles to obtain background and other pertinent information.
- Assists in the investigation, evaluation, and assessment of the juvenile’s background.
- Makes recommendations on referrals to community resources and treatment/rehabilitation.
- Prepares case records and reports.
- Performs other duties as required.
- Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor’s degree including at least twelve (12) semester credit hours in a social science.
- Experience equivalent to a four-year bachelor’s degree may be substituted on a year-for-year basis if of comparable scope, level, and quality, and demonstrates knowledge and abilities comparable to those acquired in the degree program.
- Ability to write clear and comprehensive reports and documents, read and interpret complex written material, and solve complex problems logically and systematically.
- Specialized experience: progressively responsible professional experience involving counseling to individuals and/or families, including but not limited to educational counseling, vocational rehabilitation, psychological or pastoral counseling, probation or parole services counseling.
- Applicants who will graduate within three months of the application may apply; applicants must present an original official transcript upon selection.
- Valid, unexpired driver’s license for driving duties.
The Hawai`i State Judiciary shall not hire or promote anyone who may have contact with detainees in juvenile facilities and lockups, or who has:
- Engaged in sexual abuse in a prison, jail, lockup, community confinement facility, juvenile facility or similar institution;
- Been convicted of forced or coerced sexual activity in the community, or where the victim did not consent or was unable to consent;
- Been civilly or administratively adjudicated to have engaged in the activity described above;
- Been the subject of substantiated allegations of sexual abuse or sexual harassment, or resigned during a pending investigation.
