Eligibility and Placement

Applicants will be placed on the eligible register for all levels for which they are qualified.

This recruitment will be used to establish a list of qualified candidates for both permanent and temporary vacancies. Employees appointed to temporary positions may gain membership in the civil service upon satisfactory completion of an initial probation period of at least six months.

Job Description

Social Workers and Human Services Professionals improve the overall quality of life of people within the context of their environment through remediation and prevention of problems, and by improving accessibility, accountability and coordination of service delivery among a variety of professionals and agencies tasked with providing appropriate services to clients.

These professionals work in hospitals, health service agencies, social service agencies, schools, correctional facilities, and programs related to substance abuse, aging, and family violence. Positions are categorized into Types A, B, and C based on case complexity and level of authority.

Type A: Fully trained and experienced professional who independently performs full range of work for predominantly highly complex cases with frequent hostility or resistance.

Type B: Positions that are not fully independent; the worker handles mostly routine aspects of casework under supervision in complex or volatile cases.

Type C: Fully trained professional who performs typical work of Level III while supervising a small group of less experienced staff, without significant program management responsibilities.

Qualifications
