Position Specific Description
Recruitment Number 26-133LK, Judicial Clerk IV, SR-16, Step C ($4,388 per month) to Step G ($5,133 per month)*, Lihue, Kauai.
The starting salary may be between the minimum and maximum salary range listed above and will be determined by the hiring authority based on qualifications.
Summary of DutiesThis position is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Traffic Section, ensuring efficient and accurate delivery of court services, and supervising staff. Duties include planning, assigning, and reviewing work; training, mentoring, evaluating, and managing employees; coordinating court calendars and case processing; overseeing customer service, records management, and financial transactions; ensuring compliance with applicable laws, court rules, policies, and procedures;
resolving operational and public service issues; recommending process improvements; assisting with personnel actions; and serving as a subject matter expert for case management systems, including implementation, testing, and staff training.
Education Requirement: Graduation from high school or equivalent; excessive experience of a type described below or work experience requiring the ability to read and comprehend and apply written directions or a high degree of verbal skill may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.
General
Experience:
Two (2) years of general clerical work experience.
Specialized
Experience:
One and one-half (1-1/2) years of work experience in a court, legal, criminal justice, law enforcement, or corrections setting, which included the examining, preparation and/or processing of legal forms and documents.
For Judicial Clerk IV, at least one (1) year of the Specialized Experience must be comparable to that performed at the Judicial Clerk III level.
Applicants for the Judicial Clerk IV level must have demonstrated supervisory aptitude. Supervisory aptitude is demonstrated through successful completion of regular or special assignments which involve some supervisory responsibilities or aspects; serving as a group or team leader; completing training courses in supervision with application of supervisory skills; or receiving favorable appraisals indicating possession of supervisory potential.
Skill RequirementApplicants must possess the ability to type 40 net words per minute.
Substitution of Education for ExperienceEducation at an accredited college or university may be substituted on the basis of 15 semester credits for six (6) months of General Experience up to a maximum of two (2) years.
- Education at an accredited college or university in a paralegal, legal studies, law program, or a closely related field may be substituted on the basis of fifteen (15) semester credits for six (6) months of Specialized Experience up to a maximum of one (1) year.
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Criminal Justice, Political Science, or a closely related field may be substituted for one (1) year of Specialized Experience.
