This posting is being used to fill Bilingual/Bicultural School-Home Assistant positions at Ke'elikolani Middle, 1302 Queen Emma St, Honolulu, HI 96813. Salary: $3,606.00 per month. The position is a 12-month, various type.
Examples of DutiesThe duties include serving as a liaison to promote cooperation and understanding between parents, school, and project personnel; solving students' educational and related problems; disseminating project information; explaining school programs, policies, and procedures to parents; translating and relating parents' concerns to project and school staff; seeking community resources and maintaining a file of these resources; suggesting various resources to assist parents with their problems;
suggesting parents and others in the community with special skills as resource persons in the classrooms; encouraging parents to participate in school activities; assisting in organizing Parent Advisory Groups and encouraging parents to participate; assisting in planning and developing projects to increase parent participation in school-related activities; planning for and/or conducting information and interest sessions for parents; assisting in translating information on various social and health programs;
participating in various training programs; and preparing activity reports.
Applicants must have had general work experience of the kind and quality described below: two (2) years of paid or volunteer work experience in which the applicant worked with individuals and groups and was required to possess the following ability or demonstrated same: understand and explain various materials related to the program/project/activity; establish and maintain rapport with individuals and groups and encourage participation in program/project activities;
speak effectively with individuals and groups and to elicit pertinent information; plan and conduct group information sessions; prepare activity reports; recognize and identify basic individual human needs. In addition, applicants must have had at least one (1) year's experience that provided the applicant with the following knowledge and skills: knowledge of Chuukese culture; ability to speak, read, write, and understand Chuukese language;
ability to establish and maintain rapport with Chuukese communities. Some positions require possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license to drive in the State of Hawaii. Substitutions allowed for general experience include successful completion of a one (1) year Human Services Curriculum leading to a certificate of Achievement at an accredited Community College and which included field experience in Community Service;
successful completion of a two (2) year Human Services Curriculum leading to a degree at an accredited Community College and which included field experience in Community Service; partial completion of a substantially full-time Human Services Curriculum at an accredited Community College and which included field experience in Community Service.
The advertised salary is based on full-time employment and includes shortage and school year differentials, if applicable. Applicants must meet all the requirements for the position they are seeking as of the date of the application, unless otherwise specified. Temporary positions may be extended year to year, dependent upon funding and departmental needs. Making yourself available for temporary positions increases your employment possibilities and may lead to permanent opportunities.
A person hired for a temporary position may also become a temporary employee upon satisfactory completion of the initial probation period of at least six months. Once a temporary employee, you would be eligible to apply for promotion and transfer opportunities to permanent as well as other temporary positions. You may also enjoy other rights and benefits as afforded to an employee in a permanent position, with the exception of return rights and placement rights associated with a reduction-in-force.
