This recruitment will be used to establish a list of qualified applicants to fill current and future vacancies located at the Joint Traffic Management Center (JTMC) located in Downtown, Honolulu with the Department of Transportation
- Highways, State of Hawaii.

Salary: $3,471 - $4,388 per month (SR-10, Step C to I); $3,748 - $4,742 per month (SR-12, Step C to I).
Note:
Hiring rates will be based on availability of funds, the applicant's qualifications, and other relevant factors.
Applicants must be available to work rotating shifts, including evenings, weekends and holidays.
Pre-employmentFingerprint-based criminal history check: If selected, you will be required to submit to and pass a fingerprint-based criminal history check submitted to the Hawaii Criminal Justice Data Center (HCJDC) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) for unescorted access to secured areas and equipment related to a traffic management center as part of the pre-employment suitability in accordance with HRS §846-2.7 (b) (37).

The Department of Human Resources Development
- State Recruiting Office will refer all inquiries regarding this recruitment to the DOT Personnel Office.
Receives training in the operating policies and procedures for the transportation control center involving normal surveillance and emergency response activities, and in operating various traffic control and telecommunications equipment. Operates equipment and performs progressively responsible surveillance and emergency response activities. Work is performed under close supervision of a Transportation Systems Operator III.
Transportation Systems Operator IIIndependently maintains surveillance of traffic and other activity via closed circuit television monitors and other electronic sensor equipment to assure safe traffic movement; responds to traffic and security incidents by executing traffic control changes and various other emergency procedures and by notifying appropriate agencies (e.g., police, fire, ambulance, plant maintenance personnel); and logs shift incidents. Work is performed independently under the general supervision of a higher level Transportation Systems Operator, in accordance with policies, procedures and guidelines;
however, decisions which are not covered by available guidelines may be required in unusual/emergency situations.
- Basic Experience Requirement
:
Six (6) months of work experience demonstrating knowledge of correct English grammar and usage; ability to read, understand and apply written instructions; and ability to understand and apply oral instructions. Graduation from high school, or its equivalent may be substituted for the required experience described above. - General Experience
:
Two (2) years of work experience demonstrating the ability to deal effectively with people; understand and apply written material such as policies and procedures or rules and regulations; communicate effectively orally and in writing; operate common office machines and equipment including computer consoles; and knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and word usage. - Specialized Experience (for Transportation Systems Operator II):
One (1) year of work experience in an electronic based control center which included the operation of a computer console in regulating remote surveillance cameras, traffic signals, message signs and other traffic control equipment; operation of a two-way radio, AM/FM rebroadcast/override system, and/or other telecommunications equipment; and/or responding to traffic and security incidents by executing traffic control changes and various other emergency procedures and notifying appropriate agencies. - License Requirement

Applicants must possess a valid license to drive in the State of Hawaii at the time of appointment.
