This job is open to the public, U.S. citizens, individuals with disabilities, veterans, and special authorities. Duties include aviation safety inspections, technical administration, certification, and surveillance. The selectee will be required to participate in the flight program as an aircrew member and must meet medical and flight currency requirements. Duties and responsibilities vary by grade level, from assisting in enforcement investigations to conducting investigations of public complaints and aircraft incidents and accidents.

Requirements include US citizenship, selective service registration for males, designated or random drug testing, and a resume that includes FAR part numbers and aircraft experience. Minimum eligibility requirements are two separate incidents involving Federal Aviation Regulations violations in the last 5 years, a valid state driver's license, fluency in the English language, no chemical dependencies or drug abuse, and a high school graduate or equivalent.

Medical requirements include good distant vision, the ability to hear the conversational voice, and a valid second-class medical certificate in accordance with FAA regulations.

Specialized experience includes minimum 100 flight hours in Rotorcraft-Helicopter in the last three years, a commercial helicopter pilot rating with instrument helicopter, or airline transport pilot with helicopter rating, and 1,200 hours of total time requirements. Additional specialized experience is required at each grade level, including work involving a wide range of assignments or a few highly complex assignments, and work involving assignments with a broad scope of responsibility.

Salary ranges from $55,564 to $92,429 per year, depending on grade level. The position is permanent, full-time, and excepted service. Relocation expenses may be reimbursed, and a one-year probationary period may be required. The position is covered by the Department of Transportation's Drug and Alcohol Testing Program, and applicants will be subject to pre-employment or pre-appointment drug screening.
