Airport Operations Controller III Job Details
Salary: $4,388.00 to $6,490.00 per month (SR-16, Steps C - M). Salary includes shortage category differential. Hiring rates are based on fund availability, applicant qualifications, and other relevant factors.
Shift work:
Applicants must be willing and able to work rotating shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

ResponsibilitiesThe Airport Operations Controller III serves as the senior controller on a shift position directs the work of one or more lower-level Airport Operations Controllers. Duties include assigning gate positions and terminal holding rooms to air carriers, assigning aircraft to storage areas for engine testing and layovers, coordinating aircraft movement in emergencies, notifying carriers of over parking and requiring removal of aircraft, relaying information and instructions by radio, patrolling operational areas, inspecting runways, taxiways, ramps and other areas for obstructions and hazardous conditions, enforcing safety regulations, escorting or directing authorized personnel on the ramp or aircraft operating areas, issuing notices and citations, tabulating aircraft revenue landings, reviewing work of lower-level personnel, providing on-the-job training and airfield procedures orientation for new employees, assuring proper conduct of operations on a shift and handling emergency and unusual situations, and preparing reports and keeping records.
Qualifications- General
Experience:
At least two (2) years of work experience demonstrating the ability to meet and deal effectively with people, understand and apply various rules and regulations, prepare reports, and act effectively in emergencies. - Specialized
Experience:
At least two (2) years of airport ground operations control work, including assignment and control of aircraft parking positions, direction and control of aircraft and vehicle movement on the ramp, inspection of runways and airfields, inspection of aircraft parking ramps, and enforcement of operational rules and regulations. - Driver's License:
Valid driver's license to drive in the State of Hawaii at the time of appointment. - Security Identification Area (SIDA) clearance:
Must undergo a pre-employment fingerprint-based criminal history check and be found free of disqualifying convictions within the preceding ten years. - Legal Authorization to Work:
Must be a citizen, national, or permanent resident alien of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.
