Responsibilities
- Stock selection, stowing, location survey, physical inventory, material handling, material examination and identification, packing, and operating material handling equipment (MHE).
- Receive, unload, and process incoming shipments; check documentation against container or packing labels; report over, short, misdirected, or damaged materials.
- Pack and repack items using appropriate standard packing materials, methods, and techniques based on commodity/item.
- Assemble items for shipment in the loading area per shipping requests; check condition of shipping containers prior to loading.
- Ensure shipments are properly loaded onto correct conveyances.
- Count types and quantities during inventories and maintain tally listings; recalculate or search other storage locations to identify over, short, or misplaced items.
- Operate material handling equipment such as forklifts (up to 15,000 lb capacity), warehouse tractors, or general‑purpose vehicles.

- Must obtain and maintain required licenses and/or certifications mandated by applicable laws.
- Must obtain and maintain hazardous materials handling certifications.
Applicants will be rated in accordance with the Office of Personnel Management Qualification Standard for Trades and Labor Occupations. The minimum qualification is the ability to perform the work of a Distribution Process Worker without more than normal supervision.

Experience may include paid, unpaid, or volunteer work, including National Service programs. All qualifying experience is credited.
Physical EffortStands on hard surfaces for extended periods. Bends, stoops, and works in tiring positions. Lifts and carries items up to 40 lb. Uses weight‑handling equipment or receives assistance for items heavier than 40 lb.
Working ConditionsWorks outside and inside areas that may be hot, damp, cold, drafty, and poorly lit. May be exposed to cuts, scrapes, bruises, muscle strain, noise, abrasions, falls, and injury from falling stock. Requires protective clothing such as steel‑toed shoes, respirators, safety glasses, and earplugs. Mechanized roller conveyors are common.
Drug‑Free Workplace PolicyDLA maintains a safe, drug‑free workplace. All employees must refrain from illegal drug use on and off duty. DLA conducts pre‑employment, reasonable suspicion, post‑accident, and random drug testing. Employees designated for testing will undergo urine screening prior to appointment; refusal or positive result results in withdrawal of offer and forfeiture of employment. Random drug testing applies to designated positions. The drug panel tests for marijuana, cocaine, opiates, heroin, phencyclidine, amphetamines, methamphetamines, fentanyl and related substances.
