About the Role
The High School Assistant Principal serves as an educational leader contributing to the development, implementation, supervision, and evaluation of a comprehensive program of educational and student services at Hood River Valley High School.
Position Type:
Full-time
Salary: $136,710 to $139,457 for a full 220‑day contract.
Responsibilities- Provide leadership with the principal to support teachers in using multiple assessment tools, strategies, and data to achieve performance standards.
- Lead and promote educational equity, ensuring allocation of resources, opportunities, and access for all students.
- Demonstrate instructional leadership through regular classroom visits and personal involvement in instructional programs.
- Understand and promote sound principles of instruction.
- Facilitate communication between personnel, students, and parents to solve problems and resolve conflicts.
- Supervise and manage employees, independent contractors, substitute employees, and volunteers as directed by the principal.
- Assist in facilitating and coordinating meetings such as curriculum, safety, site council, special district committees, and staff development.
- Promote a safe and inclusive environment; provide behavioral interventions as needed.
- Prepare documentation (reports, correspondence, etc.) to support or convey information.
- Present information and assist in professional development on various topics.
- Support the principal and staff in maintaining overall school site operation.
- Coordinate continuous improvement efforts with the principal for Site Council and staff.
- Utilize data to measure school success and support action plan development.
- Support implementation of district curriculum in classrooms.
- Assist in hiring, supervising, and evaluating licensed and classified staff.
- Collaborate with district personnel and peers.
- Assist in building budget development; monitor budget portions within guidelines.
- Communicate building needs to the principal.
- Communicate effectively with staff, students, parents, the School Board, and community.
- Maintain high ethical standards and confidentiality.
- Represent the school and district professionally.
- Model and enforce established policies, regulations, and protocols.
- Attend work regularly and be punctual.
- Perform work beyond a 40‑hour week when required.
- Other duties may be assigned as needed.
- Instruct students in classrooms and various settings when necessary.
- Attend and support parent organization activities to fund‑raise for school projects.
- Assist district and building staff as requested.
- Master’s or Doctorate degree in Education or Administration.
- Administrative experience at the building level preferred.
- Successful classroom teaching experience preferred.
- Demonstrated independent work, task organization, safety enforcement, and decision‑making.
- Strong collaboration skills with diverse backgrounds and effective communication in English; verbal Spanish preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret safety rules and operational procedures.
- Strong written communication for reports and correspondence.
- Basic mathematical skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, proportions, percentages).
- Problem‑solving skills in standardized situations.
- Proficiency with Google Suite, Microsoft Word, Excel, email, internet, social media, and websites.
- Organizational and time‑management skills; ability to juggle multiple tasks in a fast‑paced environment.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to maintain insurability under district vehicle insurance.
- CPR/First Aid certification desirable.
- Drug screening for illegal substances under federal law.
- Nationwide criminal history verification for job‑related convictions.
