Position: Dean of Students (TOSA) - 1.0 FTE - Hood River Valley High School
Open until filled. This is a REGULAR 1.0 FTE Dean of Students (TOSA) position at Hood River Valley High School, and will begin in August, 2026.

JOB SUMMARY

The Dean of Students is a licensed teacher on special assignment (TOSA) focused primarily on fostering a positive school climate, behavior, attendance, and school culture. Acting as a bridge between students, teachers, and parents, the Dean ensures a safe, structured, and positive environment conducive to learning.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Promote and maintain a positive, respectful, and equitable school climate through implementation of tier-1 school-wide strategies as part of a three tier PBIS system.
  • Enforce the student code of conduct consistently and fairly.
  • Implement restorative justice practices and proactive behavior interventions to reduce disciplinary incidents.
  • Investigate disciplinary issues, document findings, and assign appropriate consequences or restorative actions.
  • Counsel students regarding behavioral expectations and help them develop positive decision-making skills.
  • Monitor daily, weekly, and monthly student attendance data to identify trends and areas of concern.
  • Develop and implement interventions for students with chronic absenteeism or truancy issues.
  • Coordinate with the counseling team and social workers to address underlying causes of poor attendance.
  • Recognize and celebrate students for positive behavior, improved attendance, and academic growth.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of school safety protocols and emergency response plans.
  • Collaborate with administration, staff, and School Resource Officer (SRO) to ensure a safe campus environment.
  • Partner with teachers to provide strategies for effective classroom management and student engagement.
  • Communicate regularly and transparently with parents and guardians regarding student behavior, attendance, and progress.
  • Manage grants appropriate to the position and meet deadlines.
  • Create and manage student behavior plans for students needing tier 2 and tier 3 supports.
  • Support after school/evening/weekend events through flexible scheduling or extra duty compensation
  • Facilitate parent-teacher-student conferences to resolve conflicts or address behavioral concerns.
  • Participate in Individualized Education Program (IEP) or Section 504 meetings when administrative input or behavioral data is required.
GENERAL PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS
  • Perform duties in a courteous and efficient manner that builds the confidence of staff, students and the public in the Hood River County School District and enhances learning.
  • Observe laws, district policies and procedures, and professional standards for this position.
  • Work effectively and collaboratively with diverse student, parent and community populations
  • Carry out work responsibilities with strong organizational skills, effectively under pressure of deadlines, difficult situations, interruptions, and new or emergency conditions.
  • Respect confidential information and the privacy of students, staff and parents.
  • Collect, record, store, retrieve, assimilate, organize and utilize information and records electronically and by using traditional methods.
  • Develop job skills necessary to meet changes in the position.
  • Maintain personal appearance and hygiene appropriate to the position as defined by the district.
  • Meet applicable district physical ability/health and safety guidelines for the position.
