Position: Early Intervention/Early Childhood Special Education Paraprofessional - 8 hours/day

JOB PURPOSE STATEMENT

The job of Paraprofessional is done for the purpose of facilitating student success in academic and interpersonal skills through independently implementing district approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes; addressing specific educational needs of students; providing a safe and optimal learning environment, and providing direct feedback to students, parents and administration regarding student progress, expectations, goals, representing the district as needed in special education meetings, and other duties as assigned.

This position will be assigned to the Early Intervention/Early Childhood Special Education program at Pine Grove, and will be working with children from birth to 5 years old.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential duties of this position include the following.
  • Advises parents and/or legal guardians of student progress for the purpose of supporting teacher's expectations, developing methods for improvements and/or reinforcing classroom goals in the home environment.
  • Assesses and records student achievement for the purpose of providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding students' progress, expectations, and goals.
  • Assists other teachers for the purpose of implementing curriculum.
  • Collaborates with school personnel, parents and various community agencies for the purpose of improving the quality of student outcomes, developing solutions and planning curriculum.
  • Instructs students for the purpose of improving their success in academic, interpersonal and daily living skills through a defined course of study.
  • Directs instructional assistants, volunteers and/or student aides for the purpose of providing an effective school program and addressing the needs of individual students.
  • Monitors student activities for the purpose of providing a safe and optimal learning environment.
  • Prepares teaching materials and reports (e.g. grades, attendance, anecdotal records, etc.) for the purpose of implementing lesson plans and providing documentation of teacher and student progress.
  • Reports incidents (e.g. suspected child abuse, suspected substance abuse, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining personal safety of students, providing a positive learning environment and adhering to Education Code, district and/or school policies.
  • Other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
GENERAL PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS
  • Work effectively with and respond to people from diverse cultures or backgrounds.
  • Demonstrate professionalism and appropriate judgment in behavior, speech, and dress in a neat, clean and appropriate manner for the assignment and work setting.
  • Maintains regular and appropriate attendance and is on time for assignment(s) for the purpose of meeting the needs of the students and the district.
  • Confer regularly with immediate supervisor.
  • Follow all district policies, work procedures and reasonable requests by proper authority.
  • Maintain the integrity of confidential information relating to a student, family, colleague or district patron.
  • Develop job skills necessary to meet changes in the position.
  • Meet applicable district physical ability/health and safety guidelines for the position
Experience Required: Prior job related experience working with children and families of 0-5 year-olds.

Education Required: High school diploma (or GED equivalent), and:
  • An Associate's degree from an regionally accredited college or university, or a minimum of 72 quarter college credits from a regionally accredited college or university, or a passing score on the CBEST exam or PRAXIS Paraprofessional Assessment.
  • Official college transcripts or score report will be required upon hire.
Skills, Knowledge and/or Abilities Required:
  • Skills to perform instructional activities, communicate with parents, students, staff and community, basic arithmetic calculations, operate standard office equipment, use English in verbal and written form, use correct grammar, punctuation and spelling, and perform basic clerical functions. Fluent bilingual English/Spanish skills required.
