Instructional Support Paraprofessional – 3.5 hours/day – Hood River Options Academy

Job Purpose Statement: The Instructional Support and SDI Paraprofessional works under the supervision of an administrator to assist in instruction and supervision of students, primarily focusing on implementing specifically designed instruction for students on IEPs.
Essential Job Functions- Assists licensed staff by instructing students individually and in small groups, implementing lesson plans, administering tests, teaching library skills, and planning.
- Monitors students and classroom/campus activities to provide a safe and positive learning environment.
- May provide personal care and assistance to students, including toileting, hygiene, feeding, positioning, mobility, and delegated nursing/therapy services.
- Maintains classroom equipment, student files, records, and other items necessary for instruction.
- Performs limited clerical functions related to instruction (preparing materials, maintaining instructional records, communicating with parents).
- Maintains regular attendance and punctuality to meet student and district needs.
- Administers tests to assist licensed staff in evaluating student progress.
- Confers with licensed staff, parents, or community agency personnel to evaluate progress or implement objectives.
- Participates in meetings to share information and improve skills and knowledge.
- Assists other personnel as required (small groups, special needs, computer labs, therapy, gifted programs).
- Experience working with all levels of students in an alternative education program, providing services to students with varied learning styles and challenges.
- Experience with online learning platforms or ability to learn them quickly; preference to those with ready experience.
- Skills: perform instructional activities, communicate with parents/students/ staff, basic arithmetic, use standard office equipment, correct grammar/punctuation, basic clerical tasks.
- Knowledge: principles of child development, instructional processes, PBIS systems, management and clerical skills, team meeting organization.
- Abilities: work collaboratively with instructional teams, adapt to varied tasks, sit/stand prolonged periods, understand oral/written instructions, maintain confidentiality, meet deadlines, interpret/ apply policies, rapid learning of instructional methods, physical abilities (lifting, reaching, handling).
- Bilingual: English/Spanish preferred.
High School diploma or equivalent. Equivalent of 72 quarter credits of college coursework, or a passing score on the CBEST or Paraprofessional Assessment.
Required Testing- Drug screening for illegal substances.
- Post‑offer physical abilities assessment.
- Nationwide criminal history verification (job‑related convictions only).
- Fingerprint‑based nationwide background clearance.
