SLC Instructional Assistant – 7.5 Hours/Day – Wy'east Middle School

Job DescriptionThis posting will remain open until filled. Initial application screening will begin June 26, and interviews are tentatively scheduled for late July or early August.
Essential Job Functions- Assist licensed staff in instructing students individually and in small groups by implementing lesson plans, instructional activities, administering tests, teaching library skills, and planning instructional materials.
- Monitor individual students, classroom and campus activities to provide a safe and positive learning environment.
- Maintain classroom equipment, student files, and records to ensure availability of items as required.
- Perform limited clerical functions related to the instructional assignment: prepare materials, keep instructional records in student files, and communicate with parents.
- Maintain regular attendance and punctuality to meet students’ and district needs.
- Administer tests to assist licensed staff in evaluating student progress.
- Confere with licensed staff, parents, and community agencies to assist in evaluating student progress and implementing objectives.
- Participate in meetings to share information and improve instructional skills and knowledge.
- Assist other personnel as required, including small groups, special needs children, computer labs, therapy services, and gifted programs.
- Prior job‑related experience and training working with school‑age children or individuals with disabilities preferred.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent plus at least 72 quarter credits of college coursework (associate’s degree equivalent), or pass the CBEST or PRAXIS Paraprofessional Assessment.
- Skills:
perform instructional activities, communicate with parents and staff, basic arithmetic, operate office equipment, use English verbally and in writing, proper grammar, punctuation, and spelling. - Knowledge: principles of child development and instructional processes.
- Abilities: work as part of an instructional team, be flexible with diverse students and tasks, sit/stand for prolonged periods, follow oral and written instructions, maintain student confidentiality, meet schedules, understand rules and policies, quickly learn methods and materials for varied instructional settings. Physical: lift/reach/handle objects, converse, and have near/far visual acuity.
- English/Spanish bilingual skills preferred.
- Drug screening for controlled substances.
- Post‑offer physical abilities assessment.
- Nationwide criminal history verification (background check).
- Fingerprint-based nationwide background clearance.
Salary range: $19.22 to $22.50 per hour (2026/27 school year). Instructional Assistants assigned to the Structured Learning Center receive an additional 2.5% hourly pay differential. Certified English/Spanish bilingual employees receive a 5% pay differential.
