Job Description
Open Until Filled. This position is anticipated to work 7.25 hours/day. Initial application screening will begin June 26, with interviews tentatively scheduled for late July/early August. The position will begin August 26, 2026.

Job Purpose Statement: The ELD Instructional Assistant works under the direct or indirect supervision of a licensed staff member to assist in the instruction and supervision of students, primarily English Language Learners at Wy'east Middle School. Employees in this classification do not supervise others.
Essential Job Functions- Assist licensed staff in instructing students individually and in small groups, implementing lesson plans, conducting instructional activities, administering tests, teaching library skills, and planning.
- Monitor individual students, classroom and campus activities to provide a safe and positive learning environment.
- Maintain classroom equipment, student files, records, etc. to ensure availability of items as required.
- Perform limited clerical functions related to the instructional assignment, such as preparing materials, recording instructional data, and communicating with parents.
- Maintain regular attendance and be on time for assignments to meet student and district needs.
- Administer tests to assist licensed staff in evaluating student progress.
- Confere with licensed staff, parents, and community personnel to evaluate student progress and implement objectives.
- Participate in various meetings to share information and improve skills and knowledge.
- Assist other personnel as required to support completion of their work activities (e.g., small groups, special needs children, computer labs, therapy, gifted programs).
Experience
Required:
Prior job‑related experience with school‑age children, preferably with English Language Learners.
Education Required: Equivalent to 72 quarter credits of college coursework (associate degree) or a passing score on CBEST, PRAXIS Paraprofessional, or an equivalent rigorous test. Official transcripts or test results must be submitted if hired.
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities- Skills:
Perform instructional activities; communicate with parents, students, staff, and community; basic arithmetic; operate standard office equipment; use English in verbal and written form; use correct grammar, punctuation, and spelling; perform basic clerical functions. English/Spanish bilingual skills preferred. - Knowledge:
Principles of child development and instructional processes. - Abilities:
Work as part of an instructional team; be flexible with a wide variety of students and tasks; sit or stand for prolonged periods; understand and carry out oral and written instructions; maintain confidentiality of student records; meet schedules and deadlines; read, interpret, and apply rules, regulations, and policies; rapidly learn methods and materials; physical abilities include lifting/reaching/handling, talking/hearing conversations, near/far visual acuity. - Bilingual English/Spanish skills preferred.
- Drug screening for any illegal drug or substance regulated under the Federal Controlled Substances Act.
- Fingerprinting and background clearance.
- Post‑offer physical abilities assessment.
- Nationwide criminal history verification for convictions related to duties. Only job‑related convictions considered; not automatically disqualifying.
The salary range listed is for the 2026/27 school year. Classified employees who pass the District's English/Spanish bilingual test receive a 5% hourly pay differential.
