CTE Engineering/Robotics Teacher

For the 2026/27 school year, this is a 1.0 FTE high school CTE Engineering/Robotics Teacher position. Final date to receive applications:

Hood River Valley High School is seeking a Secondary Teacher for the CTE Engineering Pathway. This role involves guiding students through a comprehensive engineering arc, from introductory design thinking to advanced CNC machining and robotics. The successful candidate will foster a project-based environment where students use the Engineering Design Process to solve real-world problems using modern tools for invention.

Successful applicants should have the following skills:

  • Technical Expertise:
    Significant experience working within the engineering field; these can include employment, internships, and volunteer opportunities.

    Note:

    Related technical college credits can be converted to hours (1 credit = 20 hours of experience). (need to have 2,000 verifiable hours, employment, internships, volunteer hours).
  • Software Proficiency:
    Experience with and ability to teach coding and CAD skills using industry software such as Fusion 360, Arduino IDE, Rhino 3D, and Adobe Illustrator (preferred).
  • Certification:
    Must hold (or be eligible for) an Oregon CTE Teaching License through the Oregon Teacher Standards & Practices Commission and the Oregon Department of Education. Continuing education may be required.
  • A "Builder" Mindset:
    Ability to adapt and grow a program over time, making creative use of existing shop resources while planning for future expansion.
  • Community Minded:
    Ability to foster relationships with local industry partners and Columbia Gorge Community College.

Essential duties of this position include the following. Employees in this position perform some or all of the following tasks. Other related duties may be assigned.

  • Provide supportive and effective classroom management for students.
  • Plan effective and appropriate daily lessons and unit plans incorporating industry as well as school wide initiatives (i.e. reading and writing across the curriculum).
  • Develop, implement and maintain a system to track and maintain tools and equipment (loss prevention and continued maintenance).
  • Maintain a budget with a positive balance and maintain and turn in all associated records in a timely manner.
  • Attend all required meetings.
  • Effectively collaborate with CTE instructor team.
  • Maintains appropriate certifications and training hours as required
  • Attend regional, state and national student competitions.
  • Teach occupational knowledge and skills in the areas of safety, machine processes, metal fabrication, welding, heat treating, cutting, communications and career preparation.
  • Assist in organizing and maintaining an active engineering technology advisory committee.
  • Coordinate the placement, supervision, and evaluation of students on internship and cooperative work experience sites as assigned.
  • Match activities and materials to individual and group skills and needs.
  • Design or selects and uses planned sequences of instruction for the development of occupational skills and knowledge.
  • Ensure that instructional activities and materials are clearly related to District, school, program, and course goals and objectives.
  • Provide instruction based on designated instructional materials or develops alternate materials in prescribed District format.
  • Establishes and maintains a safe, orderly and supportive classroom and laboratory environment in which students are actively participating and show respect for one another and for the teacher.
  • Maximizes time when students are paying attention and working on tasks directly related to the subject matter.
  • Conducts interesting and well-paced classes using a variety of instructional techniques, strategies, and materials appropriate to the lesson.
  • Makes sure students understand what to do before undertaking assignments.
  • Assesses, keeps track of, and provides feedback promptly and often to students on their progress and assignments.
  • Uses a grading system that is consistent, fair, and supportable, and that aligns with building and district philosophy.
  • Selects and requisitions required instructional equipment, supplies, and materials.
  • Ensures that materials and equipment are properly used, maintained and stored, and that inventory records are accurate and current.
  • Conducts appropriate assessments of students' work and maintains accurate and regular data on students in areas of attendance, grades, and IEP progress, if applicable, and implements 504 and student health care plans.
  • Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities as assigned.
  • Participates cooperatively in school, area, and district-wide activities.
  • Follows specified standards, policies, and procedures of the building and District.
  • Actively partners with local Community College to create seamless transitions for students.
