Migrant Education Academic Planning Teacher On Special Assignment (TOSA)

This is a Regular,.50 FTE Migrant Education Academic Planning Teacher On Special Assignment (TOSA) position, based out of the Migrant Education Program and will begin in August, 2026.

The Migrant Education Academic Planning Teacher (TOSA) provides district-wide leadership in designing, coordinating, and evaluating supplemental academic programming for migratory students in PreK–8. Working collaboratively with school-based Academic Support Specialists, administrators, teachers, families, and community partners, this position supports academic growth, successful school transitions, family engagement, and compliance with Title I-C Migrant Education requirements. Additionally, the teacher facilitates student success in academic and interpersonal skills by implementing District-approved curriculum, providing a safe learning environment, and addressing specific educational needs while promoting high standards of performance for all students regardless of their background.

• Design, coordinate, and evaluate supplemental academic programs that support migrant students from preschool through eighth grade.
• Align programming with district priorities, Title I-C requirements, and the work of school-based Academic Support Specialists.
• Collaborate with school staff to identify student needs, monitor academic progress, and support successful transitions between preschool, elementary, middle school, and high school.
• Partner with district and building staff to coordinate services, evaluate program effectiveness, analyze student data, and recommend continuous improvements.
• Participate in development and implementation of individual student plans (e.g., IEP, 504).
• Work as part of the school team to fully implement Multi-tiered Systems of Support (MTSS).
• Coordinate after-school, evening, and extended learning opportunities, including family workshops and academic enrichment activities.
• Effectively work with and respond to people from diverse cultures or backgrounds.
• Advise parents and/or legal guardians of student progress for the purpose of supporting teacher's expectations, developing methods for improvement and/or reinforcing classroom goals in the home environment.
• Instruct students for the purpose of improving their success in academic, interpersonal and daily living skills through a defined course of study.
• Vary and pace classroom strategies to accommodate different learning styles, actively involve students and maximize student engagement in meaningful learning.
• Assess students for the purpose of providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding students' progress, expectations, goals, etc.
• Assist school staff and administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student conduct, reinforce individual school's plan for positive behavior support, develop reasonable rules for classroom behavior and utilize effective, proactive behavior management skills in all school settings.
• Prepare teaching materials and reports (e.g. grades, attendance, anecdotal records, etc.) for the purpose of implementing lesson plans and providing documentation of teacher and student progress.
• Model and teach respect with an awareness of diversity.
• Use current body of knowledge in cultural diversity issues in teaching and curriculum development to design and adapt individual/group academic and behavior/social programs in all school settings.
• Collaborates with school personnel, parents and various community agencies for the purpose of improving the quality of student outcomes, developing solutions and planning curriculum.
• Directs instructional assistants, volunteers and/or student aides for the purpose of providing an effective school program and addressing the needs of individual students.
• Instructs students for the purpose of improving their success in academic, interpersonal and daily living skills through a defined course of study.
• Assist school staff and administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student conduct, reinforce individual school's plan for positive behavior support, develop reasonable rules for classroom behavior and utilize effective, proactive behavior management skills in all school settings
• Maintains regular and appropriate attendance and is on time for assignment(s) for the purpose of meeting the needs of the students and the district.
• Monitors student activities (e.g. classroom, lunch, grounds, etc.) for the purpose of providing a safe and optimal learning environment.
• Reports incidents (e.g. fights, suspected child abuse, suspected substance abuse, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining personal safety of students, providing a positive learning environment and adhering to Education Code, district and/or school policy.
