JOB SUMMARY

The job of the Family Engagement and Academic Support Paraprofessional is to facilitate student academic success and interpersonal relationship skills and serve as a direct liaison between the school and the family. The Family Engagement and Academic Support Specialist will provide direct feedback to students, parents/guardians, and the administration regarding student progress, expectations, goals, and concerns. This position also serves as a link between the school and community partners.

The Family Engagement and Academic Support Paraprofessional position is a bilingual (English/Spanish) position focusing on the success of our under-served student populations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Employees in this position perform some or all of the following tasks. Essential duties of this position include the following.

  • Support outreach efforts to engage families (community and district-wide events, school open houses, etc).
  • Advises parents and/or legal guardians of student progress to support teacher’s expectations, develop improvement methods, and/or reinforce classroom goals in the home environment.
  • Collaborates with counselors and teachers for the purpose of providing feedback to families and administration regarding students’ progress, expectations, goals, etc.
  • Collaborates with school personnel, families, and various community agencies for the purpose of improving the quality of student outcomes and family involvement.
  • Participates in various meetings (e.g., parent conferences, in-service training, site meetings, district, etc.) for the purpose of receiving and/or providing information and/or meeting credential requirements.
  • Translates information between parents and school employees within the program.
  • Works with building personnel to communicate in English/Spanish about school events and opportunities.
  • A flexible schedule will be needed for after-school and evening events that promote student success and family engagement.
  • Maintains regular and appropriate attendance and is on time for assignment(s) for the purpose of meeting the needs of the students and the district.
  • Monitors student activities (i.e., classroom, lunch, school grounds, events, etc.)
  • Reinforce and reteach the Student Code of Conduct.
  • Facilitate family engagement activities and involvement in the academic life of middle school students.
  • Works with school counselors and administrators to serve as a community resource for prevention services and other community services available to students/parents/families/legal guardians.
