Job DescriptionThis vacancy will remain open until filled. This is a Regular, 8 hour/day Paraprofessional position that is budgeted for 193 days per school year. It will begin August 24, 2026.
Job Purpose StatementThe job of Special Education Paraprofessional is to facilitate student success in academic and interpersonal skills through independently implementing district-approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes; addressing specific educational needs of students; providing a safe and optimal learning environment; and providing direct feedback to students, parents, and administration regarding student progress, expectations, goals, representing the district as needed in special education meetings, and other duties as assigned.
EssentialJob Functions
- Transition Planning: In collaboration with Learning Specialists, case managers, and families, work to align job site placements and skill-building activities with individual student IEP transition goals.
- Job Site Transportation & Supervision: Safely transport students to and from community job/vocational sites and provide on-site job coaching and supervision.
- Community Opportunity Development: Partner with local businesses and organizations to identify, create, and maintain meaningful work experience opportunities for students.
- Workplace Readiness: Teach real-world job skills, professional communication, task management, and workplace expectations.
- Assist licensed staff members in instructing students, individually and in small groups, by implementing lesson plans, instructional activities; administering tests; teaching library skills; and planning.
- Monitor individual students, classroom, and campus activities to provide a safe and positive learning environment.
- Maintain classroom equipment, student files, and records to ensure availability of items as required.
- Perform limited clerical functions directly related to the instructional assignment: preparing materials, instructional records for student files, communication with parents, etc.
- Maintain regular and appropriate attendance and be on time for assignments to meet the needs of students and the district.
- Support behavior by de-escalating situations and assisting students experiencing emotional dysregulation.
- Use appropriate strategies and support to maintain student and staff safety; may track and report on behavior to the IEP case manager or behavioral support staff.
- Administer tests to assist licensed staff in evaluating students’ progress.
- Consult with licensed staff, parents, and/or community agency personnel to assist in evaluating students’ progress and implementing objectives.
- Participate in meetings to share information and improve skills/knowledge.
- Assist other personnel as required to support them in completing work activities (e.g., small groups, special needs students, computer labs, physical and occupational therapy, gifted programs).
- Work effectively with and respond to people from diverse cultures or backgrounds.
- Demonstrate professionalism and appropriate judgment in behavior, speech, and dress in a neat, clean, and appropriate manner for the assignment and work setting.
- Confer regularly with immediate supervisor.
- Follow all district policies, work procedures, and reasonable requests by proper authority.
- Maintain the integrity of confidential information relating to a student, family, colleague, or district patron.
- Develop job skills necessary to meet changes in the position.
- Meet applicable district physical ability/health and safety guidelines for the position.
