Job Summary

Part of a multi-functional engineering team that applies mechanical engineering subject matter expertise for the development and production of a ground-based avionics mechanical work products. This includes process alignment with the requirements of DO-254 (hardware design requirements for ground-based avionics systems) and DO-160 (environmental verification requirements for ground-based avionics systems.)

Essential Job Functions

  • Establish, maintain and control both allocated and derived requirements for specific mechanical design initiatives.
  • Conduct formal analysis of alternative solutions and present the selected optimal approach to meet the requirements.
  • Perform detailed mechanical design in accordance with established standard operating procedures and applicable industry regulations.
  • Employee modeling and simulation tools to ensure predictable outcomes.
  • Create detailed design documentation that is aligned with established configuration management policies and procedures.
  • Work with production and product support by enacting concurrent engineering practices.
  • Procure materials and construct prototype assemblies early in the development process.
  • Perform the verification planning, generate verification procedures and conduct verification test of all mechanical designs to assure requirements compliance.
  • Support production and quality assurance activities, including participation in configuration control board (CCB) and material review board (MRB) for the disposition of non-conforming product.
  • Conducting peer reviews of other engineers.
  • Sources and verifies components for bills of materials.

Education and Work Experience Requirements

  • Mechanical Engineering degree
  • Experience in design and development of electro-mechanical devices with embedded software
  • Knowledge of IPC 610 and 620 standards

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics

  • 3-5 years’ experience as a Mechanical Engineer
  • Experience with Solidworks
  • Experience in DO-160 and DO-254
