The Quality Engineer is responsible for overseeing and executing quality engineering activities at the Hood River facility. This role collaborates with cross‑functional teams to develop, execute and maintain procedures and documentation that ensure production and quality control of all products shipped from the Hood River location. The position reports directly to the Site Manager, with joint interaction with Borg Warner Portland’s Quality & Continuous Improvement Manager, and the Manufacturing Engineering department.
Responsibilities- Ensure every product meets specifications while championing Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost (SQDC) mindset.
- Perform or lead root cause (8D) analysis and corrective action implementation for non‑conforming products.
- Review and make disposition on non‑conforming materials and represent Borg Warner on related issues.
- Compile and organize technical data and prepare reports for evaluation by upper management and customer to drive process changes in a Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) environment.
- Develop, utilize, and maintain quality documentation including Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA), Quality Plan, and Standard Work Instructions (SWIs).
- Prepare and submit customer quality documentation, including deviation requests.
- Analyze and interpret engineering drawings and specifications with an understanding of GD&T principles.
- Conduct inspections using CMM and other precision measurement tools to ensure product dimensions and tolerances meet specifications.
- Identify and implement improvements with the manufacturing team that improve quality, reduce product cost, and maximize customer satisfaction.
- Work closely with the production team to solve manufacturing issues and ensure smooth operations.
- Provide technical assistance in design layout, detail drawing construction, and testing of manufacturing processes.
- Assist in the design and manufacture of mechanical parts, tooling, and assemblies using Solid Works.
- Participate in product development activities to support new projects and continuous improvement.
- Coordinate or perform as needed machining, process diagnostics, maintenance, repairs, calibrations, and operating procedures.
- 5-8 years' experience
- Comprehensive understanding of ISO Quality standards related to manufacturing.
- Well versed in application of problem‑solving tools (5 Whys, Ishikawa, PDCA Cycle, 8D Problem‑Solving, etc.)
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Highly developed organizational skills with the ability to prioritize, handle multiple tasks simultaneously, and meet deadlines.
- Skilled in the use of ERP/MRP systems with a preference for SAP experience.
- General understanding of GD&T per ASME Y14.5.
- Ability and experience operating a CMM preferred.
- Basic CAD skills with the ability to open parts and drawings to perform review and updates.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office products including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Strong engineering intuition with the ability to work with limited information to quickly solve problems.
Salary Range: $80,800 - $111,100
