With supervision, the Maintenance I Specialist performs a variety of semi‑skilled duties in the maintenance, construction, and repair of the District’s facilities. This work is done to maintain facilities in safe operating condition, maintain a preventive maintenance program, and resolve immediate operational and/or safety concerns. The position requires working independently and cooperatively as a team, with minimal disruption to student learning.
EssentialJob Functions
- Safely perform a variety of basic maintenance tasks that require inspecting, troubleshooting, repairing, fabricating, installing, servicing and maintaining building facilities and equipment.
- Build items (e.g., counters, temporary partitions, cabinets, shelves, walls, fences, ditches, wood structures, metal objects) to modify or adapt facilities.
- Inspect system components (e.g., parts, equipment, buildings, sidewalks, fences, roads) to identify potential repairs and support preventive maintenance.
- Prepare documentation to provide written support or convey information.
- Assist with system component repairs to keep facilities safe, comfortable, and operating.
- Respond to emergency situations (facility damage, playground equipment damage, roof leaks) to resolve immediate safety concerns.
- Perform or assist in scheduled preventive maintenance of roofs, motors, exit/emergency lights, basketball hoops, generators, batteries, smoke detectors, and service vehicles.
- Perform some carpentry duties including new construction, remodeling, fabrication, and replacement of doors, walls, signs, desks, counters, shelves, and tables.
- Perform interior and exterior painting, including pressure washing, chemical paint removal, sandblasting, sanding, brush painting, roller painting, and power spray painting.
- Assist with window glazing and screen repairs.
- Assist with interior masonry duties, including installation of ceramic tile, grout, and patch repairs.
- Assist with new installation and repair of floor coverings (VCT, carpet tiles, cove base).
- Assist with minor plumbing repairs and maintenance (restroom commode, sink fixtures, drinking fountains, snaking drain lines).
- Refinish and repair furniture, tables, and chairs.
- Follow specific operations and maintenance guidelines for site‑specific equipment.
- Deliver materials, equipment, and supplies to District facilities.
- Move furniture, equipment and materials within and between facilities.
- Operate hand and power tools.
- Operate vehicles, including cube vans, vans with lift gates, and small dump truck.
- Operate mowers and snow removal equipment.
- Safely work from ladders, scaffolding, and riggings.
- Requisition material supplies, equipment, and assistance.
- Keep tools and equipment in good operating condition.
- Prepare daily reports on work completed and materials used.
- Utilize the electronic work order system.
- Attend work regularly in a clean uniform and arrive on time for assignments.
- Occasionally perform work beyond a standard 40‑hour week when required.
