Design and develop Vigilant Spirit SW for UAV command and control
About Applied NavigationApplied Navigation provides autopilots and other components for unmanned aircraft. The Quattro Flight Management System (FMS) is used by proven, mission-ready UAVs, such as the American Aerospace AiRanger, Pterodynamics XP-4, and Platform Vanilla. Command and control is performed with Vigilant Spirit, developed by the US Air Force Research Lab. Vigilant Spirit features active checklists and emergency procedures and the ability to control and monitor multiple vehicles.
Applied Navigation provides unmatched support and is the clear choice for systems that must operate every day in adverse environments with precision.
Primary responsibility of this position is to design, develop, and implement software for Vigilant Spirit. Candidates are expected to design user interface features from high-level requirements or user stories. Direct communication with customers to understand needs is encouraged.
Summary of Essential Job Functions- Design and implement new features for Vigilant Spirit for operating unmanned air vehicles.
- Interface with customers to provide support and gather feature requests.
- Maintain and improve user documentation.
- Support external developers with custom plugins.
- Shape the Applied Navigation product roadmap.
- Support customer demos and promotional video creation.
- Design and implement new features for a second UI, the Quattro Engineering Tool
- Implement communication protocols in the autopilot embedded code (C/C++).
- Attend trade shows.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Engineering.
- 3 years’ experience in UI software engineering or similar role.
- Programming experience with C#.
- Programming experience with Microsoft .net.
- Experience with autonomous vehicle human machine interface.
- Familiarity with software configuration management tools, defect tracking tools, and peer review.
Onsite is preferred but not required. Candidate must be able to attend quarterly onsite meetings in Hood River Oregon. Some additional travel may be required to meet with customers, support flight tests, or support trade shows. Travel will be limited to no more than one week every month.
