Starting Date: Aug 20, 2026

Position is part‑time, 5.75 hours per day, 180 days per year (9 months). Compensation per Lane 4(B) of the Paraprofessionals Salary Schedule.

Funding is from grant allocations or student enrollment‑based sources. Continued employment or workload is contingent upon future funding each year.

Purpose Statement: Assist assigned teaching personnel in the supervision and instruction of special education students; perform classroom clerical tasks; assist students with personal care and special health care needs; and help develop students' academic, daily living, and behavioral skills.

Duties and Responsibilities (not exhaustive)
  • Provide dedicated one‑on‑one support to a student with mild to moderate disabilities, assisting with academic tasks, behavior management, and social‑emotional development in alignment with the student's individualized education plan (IEP).
  • Communicate with parents for scheduling meetings and taking messages for special education teachers.
  • Assist in maintaining students' files and records to document activities and provide reliable information.
  • Monitor individual students in classrooms, school, and community to provide a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Perform record‑keeping and clerical functions (e.g., scheduling, copying) to support the teacher and/or administrator.
  • Adapt to changing work priorities, display tact and courtesy, meet deadlines and schedules, set priorities, and maintain attention to detail.
  • Adapt classroom work under the direction of the teacher to support and reinforce lesson plans.
  • Support students in various settings – special education classroom, general education classroom, one‑on‑one, etc.
  • Provide accommodations, such as reading tests aloud, scribe services, alternate location for assessments, check‑in/check‑out support, etc.
  • Support classroom teacher in collecting data.
  • Assist other personnel as required to support them in completing work activities.
  • Implement, under teacher supervision, instructional behavioral programs to improve students' academic success through a defined course of study.
  • Assist with daily living skills (e.g., toileting, changing diapers, feeding, personal hygiene) to demonstrate skills and/or provide care occasionally.
  • Perform duties otherwise assigned by the building administrator or special education department for the benefit of special education students.

Attendance is an Essential Function of this Position: Physical presence at the worksite is required for collaboration, direct interaction with team members, other staff, students, and/or guardians, and access to on‑site equipment and resources.

  • Assist other personnel as may be required to support them in completing work activities.
Qualifications

Basic

Physical Requirements:

  • Assume and maintain various postures (kneeling, squatting, bending, standing, sitting in student‑size chairs) for extended periods.
  • Safely manage physically or verbally aggressive students.
  • Lift occasionally up to 60 lbs. to a height of 36 inches and frequently up to 25 lbs. to a height of 36 inches.
  • Enter and exit full‑size 8‑passenger vans.
  • Sanitize and clean equipment (work boxes, exercise equipment, walkers, wheelchairs, etc.).
  • Remain calm and follow safety procedures in emergency situations.
  • Walk with students to bus stops in inclement weather and train students to use public transportation.
  • Willing to participate in and utilize MANDT training.
  • Possibly work with bio‑hazards (blood‑borne pathogens, human waste, cleaning/disinfecting materials, etc.).
