The Department of Radiology, a clinical department of the School of Medicine at the University of Alabama at Birmingham ( UAB ), invites applications from highly qualified individuals with strong imaging-related research interests for tenure-earning and tenured positions at the rank of Assistant, Associate, and full Professor, based on experience and qualifications. Qualified candidates should hold a MD, PhD or MD, PhD and demonstrate a collaborative mindset.

Applicants are expected to have a strong research vision, mentor trainees, and will support their program with NIH and other federal, foundation and/or industry support.

UAB Radiology has a rapidly expanding research program with strengths in molecular imaging and therapeutics, and robust infrastructure including TR24 cyclotron, GE TOF PET / MRI , GE Omni 32 PET /CT, and small animal PET /CT, SPECT /CT, MRI and other modalities. Current initiatives include finalizing agreements for the Omni Legend 128 and Omni Legend 24 cardiac PET systems, as well as the recent acquisition of the Star Guide SPECT /CT system.

These investments enhance imaging capabilities, increase operational capacity, and strengthen the department’s position as a leader in advanced molecular imaging. Candidates who join this exciting environment must be committed to developing a robust extramurally funded research program, teaching excellence at the graduate levels, and involvement in service activities to the University and the profession. We are seeking candidates who apply innovative approaches to investigate molecular imaging & theranostics, radiation biology, and targeted radiotherapy at all levels of analysis.

The successful candidate must have strong communication skills and be able to collaborate with colleagues and participate in ongoing departmental programs. Candidates should have demonstrated a strong track record of research with an interest in enhancing the research and teaching experiences of our undergraduate and graduate students.

Positions require an earned doctoral degree or equivalent in chemistry, physics, biology, engineering, or related field. To be competitive for a tenured position, candidates must be nationally recognized for their research. Tenure-eligible candidates must have an outstanding vision for independent research. Salary is commensurate with the individual’s experience.

The Department fosters strong collaborative interactions with the School of Medicine, School of Engineering, UAB College of Arts and Sciences, UAB Hospital, and O’Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center, all of which are located right in the heart of Birmingham. UAB Hospital main campus is the 5th largest hospital in the United States. The O’Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center is one of 51 NCI
-designated cancer centers in the nation with more than 400 scientists and physician-scientists working on groundbreaking discovery in basic science and clinical cancer. The O’Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center is home to some of the brightest minds in cancer research, exploring areas of basic, translational, clinical and population-based discovery to find newer, better methods for the prevention, detection, diagnosis and treatment of cancer.
