Senior Manager, Engineering & Environmental (Shoal Creek Mine)
Responsible for directing engineering and environmental activities at the Shoal Creek Mine in Oakman, Alabama. This includes mine planning, feasibility studies, capital justification, and regulatory compliance for mine and reclamation operations.
Responsibilities- Plan and coordinate engineering feasibility studies, mine plans, capital requirements, and mine designs for the mine and plant.
- Provide support for new mine construction and operations.
- Manage Technical Services/Engineering personnel and perform mine engineering & environmental surveying to ensure accurate procedures and proper monitoring of production, cost, and performance data.
- Prepare and submit accurate production and operating reports within prescribed time limits to Mine Management and the Corporate Office.
- Coordinate with Mine Management in planning and projecting short‑term mining plans and reclamation operations, and submit projected production plans as requested.
- Assist in developing long‑term mining plans and securing necessary mining/reclamation regulatory approvals.
- Provide engineering assistance in planning, layout, and construction of mine infrastructure including slopes, shafts, roof control, ventilation, haul roads, drainage, power distribution, erosion control, and reclaimed land use areas.
- Review mining and reclamation operations, make recommendations to decrease operating costs or improve efficiency.
- Ensure compliance of all mining and reclamation activities with State and Federal laws and permits.
- Coordinate with Mine Management to rectify compliance issues identified in regulatory inspections.
- Represent the company during inspections by State and Federal reclamation inspectors on surface and underground areas as needed.
- Use personal computers and applicable software to model various mine systems for problem solving and project development.
- Provide technical assistance in project evaluations, proposed changes, testing, and development for improved performance, efficiency, and safety.
- Coordinate and inspect construction projects performed by mine personnel or outside contractors to ensure compliance with design plans or contract provisions.
- Monitor employee work performance and take corrective action consistent with company policy.
- Support other departments to contribute to overall operational success.

Qualifications- BS in Engineering (Mine Engineering preferred).
- Registered Professional Engineer or ability to obtain certification.
- Minimum eight (8) years of coal mining experience.
- Strong communication skills at all management levels.
- Ability to travel periodically and work overtime as needed.
- Proficiency in Excel, Word, AutoCAD, SurvCADD, and other relevant software.
- Experience with State and Federal mining and environmental regulations, including SMCRA and HAZWOPER.
- Previous management or supervisory experience.
- Experience with Dam Engineering and Construction; experience with SAP/Kronos a plus.
