The Operating Room Nurse I is a highly motivated professional nurse and skilled clinician who, with minimal supervision, assesses, plans, implements and evaluates the nursing care of surgical patients. Responsible for the delivery of safe, effective and quality patient-and family centered care in the perioperative setting.

• Requires flexible, self-directed RN with ability to work in any phase of the perioperative setting and willingness to float between areas as needed
• Demonstrates strong assessment skills and competence in decision making in delivery of care to patients and families
• Implements and maintains appropriate standard of care based on age specific categories recommended by the Medical Executive Committee
• Basic knowledge of hospital based software programs
• Knowledge regarding hospital, unit level policies, procedures, and standards of care
• Proficiency in the use of monitoring equipment utilized in the par anesthesia setting
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing

Minimum one year in the perioperative setting (OR, PACU or Pre‑Op) or two years in a critical care setting

• Currently licensed as registered nurse in Alabama
• Current BLS certification required
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification required before assigned independently in PACU
• Completes and passes Perioperative 101 Course if no prior experience as ORT or OR nurse

• Registered Nurse AL Single State or any of the following equivalent qualifications:
• Registered Nurse AL NLC Multi State
• Registered Nurse Non-AL NLC Multi State
• Basic Life Support

• Associate of Science Nursing in Nursing
