CTS Excavations LLC is a growing excavation, utility, and heavy civil construction company serving projects throughout Alabama and surrounding markets. Our work includes mass excavation, site development, underground utilities, grading, earthwork, and other heavy civil construction services.

As CTS continues to grow, we are looking for an experienced Head Mechanic / Diesel Mechanic / Heavy Equipment Field Mechanic to take a lead role in maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing our growing fleet of heavy equipment, trucks, trailers, and support vehicles.

We are looking for a dependable, experienced mechanic who takes pride in keeping equipment safe, reliable, and productive and who can work independently while supporting our field operations.

The Head Mechanic / Heavy Equipment Field Mechanic will be responsible for the preventive maintenance, diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repair of CTS Excavations' heavy equipment, diesel-powered vehicles, trucks, trailers, and other fleet assets.

This position will serve as a lead mechanic
, helping ensure equipment is properly maintained, safely operated, and returned to service as quickly as possible.

The ideal candidate will have strong experience working on heavy construction equipment and diesel engines and be comfortable diagnosing mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and computerized equipment issues.

• Perform preventive maintenance and scheduled service on heavy equipment, trucks, trailers, and fleet vehicles.
• Diagnose and repair diesel engines, transmissions, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, brakes, steering systems, and other mechanical components.
• Troubleshoot equipment breakdowns and determine the appropriate repair strategy.
• Respond to equipment breakdowns at active construction projects when needed.
• Perform field repairs and emergency repairs to minimize equipment downtime.
• Inspect equipment and identify potential mechanical problems before they result in major breakdowns.
• Maintain accurate maintenance and repair records for all assigned equipment.
• Document repairs, parts used, labor performed, equipment hours, and other required information.
• Communicate equipment condition, repair needs, and downtime to management and field leadership.
• Coordinate with the Fleet Operations Manager and project leadership regarding equipment maintenance and repairs.
• Maintain an organized inventory of tools, parts, fluids, filters, and other maintenance supplies.
• Maintain the cleanliness, organization, and professional appearance of the service truck, tools, and work areas.
• Follow manufacturer maintenance recommendations and company maintenance procedures.
• Perform inspections and safety checks on equipment before returning it to service.
• Assist with equipment mobilization, demobilization, and preparation for transportation between project locations.
• Help identify recurring equipment issues and recommend solutions to improve equipment reliability.
• Maintain a safe working environment and follow all CTS Excavations safety policies and procedures.
• Comply with OSHA, DOT, company, and applicable federal/state safety requirements.
• Maintain required licenses and a safe driving record.
• Work extended hours, weekends, and overtime when operational demands require it.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
