Sewer/Water Repairer 2 – Department of Public Works

We are seeking a highly motivated Sewer/Water Repairer 2 to perform the maintenance and repair of sewers and sewer equipment, clear stoppages in main line and home sewer connections, and may take the lead over a small crew. Additional duties include:

• Repairs broken sewer lines.
• Replaces worn parts.
• Installs new sewer pipes.
• May take the lead over a small crew.
• Locates sewer drains, pipes, and appurtenances.
• Operates sewer equipment such as rodders, draggers, roto rooters, jetters, and other small mechanical equipment.
• Performs manual and unskilled labor work as required.
• Installs, maintains, and repairs water main, pipes, valves, pumps, hydrants, and other equipment.
• Disassembles fire hydrants, removes defective parts, installs new parts, and reassembles hydrants.
• Replaces water valves.
• Digs trenches to remove defective pipes and to install new pipes and mains.
• Determines the presence and location of leaks, using a mechanical or electrical device.
• Ability to work for long periods in emergency situations, complete all repairs and use specialized tools and equipment.
• Locates curb stop boxes, using an electrical magnetic device.
• Locates customer service lines and water mains, using an electronic pipe locating device.
• Ability to work for long periods in emergency situations, complete all repairs, and use specialized equipment.
• Winter cleanup, which includes plowing and salting.

• 2 years’ experience in sewer installation or repair work in varied plumbing work and/or in the operation and maintenance of sewer maintenance equipment.
• Valid water and/or wastewater operator license issued by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection is a plus.
• MUST HAVE VALID DRIVER'S LICENSE AS WELL AS CDL ENDORSEMENT.

Full‑time $31.71 to $37.89 per hour.
