Job Description

QUALIFICATIONS: A four‑year degree from an accredited institution with NC certification in the assigned area of teaching.

REPORTS TO: Principal

JOB GOAL: To demonstrate leadership, establish a respectful environment for a diverse population of students, know the content they teach, facilitate learning for their students, and reflect on their practice.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Teachers demonstrate the value of lifelong learning and encourage their students to learn and grow by:

  • Building leadership among the staff and with the administration to bring about consensus and shared ownership of the vision and purpose of the school.
  • Making the content engaging, relevant, and meaningful to students’ lives by aligning instruction with the Common Core, essential standards, and 21st‑century content, including global awareness, financial literacy, business, entrepreneurial literacy, civic literacy, and health awareness.
  • Teaching core content that is revised to include skills like critical thinking, problem solving, and information and communications technology (ICT) literacy.
  • Facilitating instruction using a variety of methods appropriate for their students and integrating technology.
  • Using a variety of assessment methods to gauge learning and help students work in teams and develop leadership qualities.
  • Working collaboratively with families and significant adults in the students’ lives, adapting instruction to benefit students with special needs, and embracing fairness in the school community and in the wider world.
  • Demonstrating ethical principles—honesty, integrity, fair treatment, and respect for others—in accordance with the Code of Ethics for NC Educators and the Standards of Professional Conduct.
  • Serving as a team player and role model, supporting continuous quality improvement, and embodying core values of caring, respect, integrity, responsibility, high expectations, customer‑driven focus, and fairness.
  • Performing other duties and accepting additional responsibilities as assigned.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Must be able to communicate orally and in writing with parents, staff, and community leaders.
  • Must have finger dexterity and be able to perform basic operational functions: kneeling, sitting, walking, stooping, reaching, lifting, pushing, pulling, talking, seeing, hearing, and repetitive motion.

  • Current licensed teachers upload a legible copy of their official transcript for all degree levels in PDF format, a copy of their NC teaching license or other current license, and a resume.
  • Residency candidates upload a legible copy of their official Bachelor’s transcripts in PDF format, any previously licensed information, and a resume.
  • International applicants who are not affiliated with a sponsoring program upload: a legible copy of original foreign transcript, a copy of an officially evaluated transcript from a reputable company in PDF format, a copy of the Social Security Card, and a front/back copy of either the Work Authorization Card or Permanent Resident Card, plus a resume.
