Title: Options Substitute

Qualifications: A four‑year degree from an accredited institution with North Carolina certification in the assigned area of teaching.

Reports to: Principal

Job Goal: To demonstrate leadership, establish a respectful environment for a diverse population of students, master the content you teach, facilitate learning, and reflect on practice.

Teachers demonstrate the value of lifelong learning and encourage their students to learn and grow by:

• Building leadership among staff and administration to bring about consensus and shared ownership of the school's vision.
• Making content engaging, relevant, and meaningful by aligning instruction with the Common Core, essential standards, and 21st‑century content.
• Teaching revised core content that includes critical thinking, problem‑solving, and ICT literacy.
• Facilitating instruction with a variety of methods appropriate for students, integrating technology.
• Using a variety of assessment methods to help students learn, work in teams, and develop leadership.
• Collaborating with families and adults in students' lives, adapting teaching for special‑needs students, and promoting fairness.
• Demonstrating ethical principles of honesty, integrity, fair treatment, and respect.

Serves as a team player and role model for other employees; demonstrates commitment to continuous quality improvement; supports the core values of caring, respect, integrity, responsibility, high expectations, customer‑driven approach, and fairness.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Must communicate orally and in writing with parents, staff, and community leaders.

Must have finger dexterity and be able to perform basic life operational functions such as kneeling, sitting, walking, stooping, reaching, lifting, pushing, pulling, talking, seeing, hearing, and repetitive motion.

Background check with local and state law enforcement agencies required.
