Job Description

QUALIFICATIONS: A four-year degree from an accredited institution with NC certification in assigned area of teaching.

REPORTS TO: Principal

JOB GOAL: To demonstrate leadership, to establish a respectful environment for a diverse population of students, to know the content they teach, to facilitate learning for their students, and to reflect on their practice.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Building leadership among the staff and with the administration in order to bring about consensus and common shared ownership of the vision and purpose of the work of the school.
  • Making the content they teach engaging, relevant, and meaningful to students’ lives by aligning instruction with the common core, essential standards, and 21st‑century content which includes global awareness, financial, economic, business, entrepreneurial literacy, civic literacy, and health awareness.
  • Teaching existing core content that is revised to include skills like critical thinking, problem solving, and information and communications technology (ICT) literacy.
  • Facilitating instruction using a variety of instructional methods that are appropriate for their students by integrating and utilizing technology.
  • Using a variety of methods to assess what students have learned and to help them work in teams and develop leadership qualities.
  • Working collaboratively with families and significant adults in the lives of their students, adapting their teaching for the benefit of students with special needs, and embracing fairness in the school community and in the world.
  • Demonstrating ethical principles including honesty, integrity, fair treatment, and respect for others (Code of Ethics for NC Educators, NCAC 6C.0601; Standards of Professional Conduct for NC Educators, NCAC 6C.0602).
  • Serving as a team player and role model for other employees in the organization; demonstrating a commitment to continuous quality improvement; supporting and exhibiting organizational core values of caring, respect, integrity, responsibility, high expectations, being customer‑driven, and valuing fairness.
  • Performing other duties and accepting responsibilities as assigned.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Must be able to communicate orally and in writing with parents, staff, and community leaders.
  • Must have finger dexterity and be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of kneeling, sitting, walking, stooping, reaching, lifting, pushing, pulling, talking, seeing, hearing, and repetitive motion.
