QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mathematics, Education, or a related field. Must hold, or be eligible to hold, a Virginia Teaching License with specific endorsement(s) in mathematics or Elementary Education (K-6). Prior experience teaching Math to middle school students is preferred. Strong pedagogical skills and knowledge of research-based instructional practices in mathematics education. Effective communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to use technology effectively to enhance math instruction and engage students in learning.

DESCRIPTION

The Middle School Math Teacher is a dedicated and dynamic educator responsible for fostering a deep understanding of mathematical concepts, problem‑solving skills, and critical thinking abilities in middle school students. This role involves creating engaging lessons, fostering critical thinking and collaboration, and cultivating a positive and inclusive learning environment.

GENERAL DUTIES (May not include all duties performed)
  • Develop and implement engaging and standards‑aligned math curriculum for middle school students, incorporating a variety of instructional strategies and resources.
  • Design lesson plans that cater to diverse learning styles and address the needs of all students in the classroom.
  • Deliver clear and concise math lessons that promote active student participation, inquiry‑based learning, and conceptual understanding.
  • Use a variety of instructional techniques, including direct instruction, cooperative learning, and hands‑on activities, to engage students in mathematical concepts.
  • Administer formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress, identify areas of strength and weakness, and inform instructional planning.
  • Analyze assessment data to adjust teaching strategies, differentiate instruction, and provide targeted interventions for students who require additional support.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of students, including English language learners, students with disabilities, and advanced learners.
  • Provide individualized support and enrichment opportunities to ensure that all students are challenged and successful in their mathematical learning.
  • Implement consistent and fair classroom management strategies to promote student engagement and minimize disruptions.
  • Communicate regularly with parents regarding student progress, academic expectations, and upcoming events through newsletters, emails, and parent‑teacher conferences.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, school administrators, and community stakeholders to support student achievement and promote a culture of mathematical excellence.
  • Performs other related work as assigned.
SUPERVISION

Work is performed under the supervision of the School Principal and other designated administrators.

WORK CONDITIONS

Duties performed are typically in the school setting. Performs professional work providing support and consultative services for assigned department/program. Work requires frequent standing, sitting, walking, and light lifting. Some assignments are subject to deadlines inherent in tailoring and delivering programs to meet the needs of diverse groups. Some assignments may involve exposure to risks associated with interactions with parents and students in heightened emotional states.

Employees may be required to perform emergency and non‑emergency health‑related services for students as needed.
