Job Description

QUALIFICATIONS

The candidate must possess a Bachelor's or Master's degree in education or a related field. They must be eligible for or possess a Virginia Collegiate Professional License or Postgraduate Professional License with the appropriate endorsement to teach Business & Information Technology courses. The candidate should be proficient in the required concepts and knowledge in one or more of the following areas:
Accounting, Business Management, Computer Information Systems, Cybersecurity, Design, Multimedia and Web Technologies, Economics & Personal Finance, Entrepreneurship, or Information Technology. Additionally, the candidate should have knowledge and skill in using technology in an educational environment, particularly computer application software such as word processing, database, spreadsheet, and presentation software.

DESCRIPTION

The Business and Information Technology Teacher function is performed in a computer lab and provides instruction on computer application processes, and terminology; instructs students in the subject area, safety precautions, use, and maintenance of computers, and other equipment and code regulations related to the program area.

GENERAL DUTIES (May not include all duties performed)

  • Develop and implement lesson plans that align with state standards and the school's curriculum goals.
  • Deliver engaging and interactive instruction incorporating primary sources, technology, and authentic activities.
  • Assess and evaluate student progress through a variety of formative and summative assessments.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of all students, including those with special needs and English language learners.
  • Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student participation and fosters a love of learning.
  • Prepare students for success on occupational and industry-specific credential tests.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, administrators, and parents to support student learning and address academic or behavioral concerns.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student progress, attendance, and grades.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in assigned subject areas.
  • Organize and supervise co-curricular activities, such as DECA or FBLA, field trips, and student projects to enhance students' learning experiences.
  • Ensure the proper use, care, and storage of classroom materials, tools, machines, and resources.
  • Promote the subject area programs, dual enrollment, and post-secondary opportunities.
  • Host meetings with the Advisory Board to review curriculum, instruction, and work-based learning opportunities
  • Participate in one Balanced Calendar Intersession experience (Fall, Spring, or Summer)
  • Performs other related work as assigned.

SUPERVISION

Work is performed under the supervision of the School Principal and other administrators as appropriate, including the division Supervisor of CTE.

WORK CONDITIONS

Duties performed are typically in the school setting, specifically in a computer lab with access to Promethean board technology. Performs professional work providing support and consultative services for assigned department/program. Work requires frequent standing, sitting, walking, and light lifting. Some assignments are subject to deadlines inherent in tailoring and delivering programs to meet the needs of diverse groups. Employees may be required to perform emergency and non-emergency health-related services for students as needed.
