SUMMARY

The Districtwide Floating Health Paraprofessional provides flexible staffing support across Hopkins Public Schools by serving in school health offices when a Health Paraprofessional or Licensed School Nurse (LSN) is absent. Under the direction and delegation of a Licensed School Nurse, the employee assists in providing health services, first aid, medication administration, and care for students with chronic health needs while maintaining a safe and healthy school environment.

When health office coverage is not needed, the employee is assigned as a Special Education Paraprofessional to support students receiving special education services in classrooms and other educational settings. In this role, the employee assists licensed staff in implementing instructional, behavioral, communication, and functional supports outlined in students' Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).

The successful candidate demonstrates flexibility, professionalism, sound judgment, and the ability to adapt quickly to different schools, staff, and student needs while maintaining continuity of services throughout the district.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Health Office Responsibilities
  • Provide district wide coverage for Health Paraprofessional and Licensed School Nurse absences.
  • Assist in providing routine and emergency first aid to students and staff in accordance with district procedures and delegated nursing responsibilities.
  • Administer medications and perform delegated health procedures under the supervision and delegation of a Licensed School Nurse.
  • Provide care for students with chronic health conditions according to individualized health plans and physician orders.
  • Monitor students who become ill or injured during the school day and communicate appropriately with families, school staff, and emergency responders when necessary.
  • Maintain accurate student health records, medication documentation, and health office logs.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student health information in accordance with state and federal privacy laws.
  • Maintain organization, cleanliness, inventory, and supplies within assigned health offices.
  • Follow district emergency procedures and respond appropriately to medical emergencies.
When not assigned to health office coverage:
  • Provide instructional, behavioral, social-emotional, communication, and functional support to students receiving special education services.
  • Assist licensed staff in implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), Positive Behavior Support Plans (PBSPs), and instructional accommodations.
  • Support students individually, in small groups, and within general education classrooms.
  • Assist students with academic instruction, organization, self-regulation, communication, mobility, and daily living skills as assigned.
  • Collect student data and communicate observations to licensed staff.
  • Promote student independence while providing appropriate levels of support.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism when working with students and families.
  • Assist with supervision during classroom instruction, transitions, lunch, recess, transportation, and community-based activities as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Two years post secondary education
  • Health Paraprofessional certification or training as required by district policy.
