Installer Technician / Crew Lead – Petroleum Fueling Systems Job Description
This role leads and supports field crews that install and service fueling tanks, piping, and related petroleum fueling systems for municipal facilities and gas stations in the western Wisconsin area. You will work hands-on in the field, assisting equipment operators, pipe fitters, and demolition technicians while performing general construction, installation, and maintenance tasks. The position combines technical mechanical and electrical work with physical labor, field troubleshooting, and coordination with subcontractors, offering a clear path into leadership and territory ownership.
Responsibilities
Assist equipment operators, pipe fitters, and demolition technicians with the installation of fueling tanks and piping for municipal centers and gas station sites in the western Wisconsin area.
Perform general labor tasks, including hauling materials, digging, trenching, back filling, and site preparation for fueling system installations.
Pour concrete and assist with forming, finishing, and related construction activities to support tank and piping installations.
Use hand and power tools safely and effectively to assemble, install, repair, and maintain fueling equipment and associated components.
Support field construction activities, including mechanical assembly, basic electrical connections under guidance, and equipment mounting.
Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and technical documents to understand project layouts, equipment locations, and installation requirements.
Troubleshoot mechanical and basic electrical issues on fueling systems and equipment, and assist with repairs and service work as needed.
Coordinate with subcontractors and vendors on-site to ensure work progresses according to schedule and quality expectations.
Maintain an organized, clean, and safe worksite by removing debris, managing materials, and identifying and mitigating potential hazards.
Operate or assist with operating mechanical equipment and heavy equipment as directed, following all safety and operational procedures.
Perform routine maintenance and service tasks on fueling systems, equipment, and tools to ensure reliable operation.
Drive and care for a company truck, including transporting tools, materials, and equipment to job sites, once authorized to take a vehicle home.
Work collaboratively as part of a tight-knit field team, communicating clearly with other technicians, supervisors, and project stakeholders.
Follow all safety policies and procedures related to construction, petroleum fuels, and equipment operation, including proper use of PPE.
Lift and move materials and equipment weighing up to 75 pounds as part of daily field activities.
Be available for variable work hours, including extended days and occasional late nights, to complete time-sensitive projects.
Participate in an on-call rotation (approximately every seven weeks after about one year) to support urgent service needs.
Provide responsive customer service at job sites by representing the company professionally and addressing client needs and questions.
Document work performed, including installation details, service activities, and issues encountered, according to company standards.
Essential Skills
Class A CDL or the ability and willingness to obtain a Class A CDL, with support provided.
At least 2 years of previous experience working in the mechanical or electrical industry.
At least 6 months of experience operating mechanical equipment and machines, or experience in farm labor or mechanic work.
High school diploma or GED.
Clean driving record suitable for operating a company vehicle.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
Hands-on experience with repair, service, and construction tasks in a field environment.
Mechanical aptitude for working with equipment, machinery, and tools.
Basic electrical aptitude for working around fueling systems and related equipment under guidance.
Experience with field construction activities, including working outdoors in varying conditions.
Comfort operating or assisting with heavy equipment, following safety protocols.
