Job Description
U.S. Bank seeks an Application Developer experienced in design and development to contribute to the success of our technology initiatives. The role will involve system development for the Hogan API application, using ISTIO Gateway, Kubernetes, Postgres, Z-connect, Datadog, and vulnerability resolution. The successful candidate will join a team of developers responsible for maintaining and enhancing the U.S. Bank’s Customer Information System (CIS) and the Hogan Online Delivery System (ODS) & Hogan Platform Automation Support (PAS).
The role requires close collaboration with business partners to develop requirements, designs, technical specifications, and to design or redesign complex mainframe processes across the Hogan CIS, ODS & PAS platforms while ensuring quality, security, and compliance.
- Consistently write production-ready code that is easily testable, understandable by other developers, and accounts for edge cases and errors.
- Apply best practices when designing services/APIs in accordance with agreed standards.
- Design code that fits with the overall architecture.
- Use systematic debugging to diagnose issues at a single service and cross-service incidents, leveraging a range of tools to detect incidents and raise them with stakeholders timely.
- Take ownership of incidents in their domain and support incident resolution.
- Understand appropriate data structures, algorithms, and complexities; provide guidance on improvements.
- Create reasonable-sized code reviews with descriptions of changes and testing conducted.
- Assess code reviews for quality, business logic, test coverage, and alignment with overall architecture; highlight issues that might impact releases.
- Actively evaluate and resolve open code reviews in a timely manner.
- Understand testing approaches and use quality metrics to identify gaps; recommend solutions aligned with accepted testing frameworks and the testing pyramid.
- Approach engineering work with a security lens and actively look for vulnerabilities in code and code reviews.
- Maintain a holistic view of how applications across multiple contexts integrate.
- Be aware of the organization’s monitoring philosophy and use monitoring tools to tune and change monitoring as required.
- Develop effective coaching strategies for different individuals and seek mentorship opportunities to deepen system understanding.
- Participate in Scrum and develop a perspective on effective software delivery processes.
- Critically review tasks to ensure appropriate prioritization and sizing for continuous integration and incremental delivery; anticipate and communicate blockers before escalation.
- Create project proposals and designs that have considerable impact or touch multiple systems, ensuring technical designs are clear, well-thought-out, and consider dependencies, failure states, maintainability, testability, and ease of support.
- Keep business context in mind when proposing architectural decisions; consider scalability, reliability, and performance of systems or contexts when defining technical designs.
Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent work experience; five to six years of relevant experience.
Preferred Skills- Hands‑on Mainframe development experience with Hogan COBOL, JCL, CICS, JSON, and Splunk; IMS Database;
Gitlab; IDz/RDz (IBM Developer for z/OS);
Jira. - Strong experience with application maintenance, design, architecture, and system testing.
- Experience in system development life cycle, IT standards, procedures, and policies.
