Job DescriptionThe Assistant Cross Country Coach will work collaboratively with the Head Coach to provide a comprehensive and positive cross country experience for student-athletes. The Assistant Coach will play a key role in developing runners of all abilities, promoting a positive team culture, and ensuring the safety and well-being of all participants.
Responsibilities- Assist the Head Coach in planning, organizing, and conducting daily practices.
- Work with individual runners and small groups to improve technique, fitness, and race strategy.
- Supervise student-athletes during practices, meets, and team events.
- Help foster a positive, inclusive, and supportive team environment.
- Assist with meet day logistics, including course walk-throughs, warm-ups, and cool-downs.
- Communicate effectively with student-athletes, parents, and the Head Coach.
- Promote good sportsmanship and adherence to MSHSL rules and Blake School policies.
- Assist with team administrative tasks as needed (e.g., equipment management, uniform distribution).
- Attend all practices, meets, and team meetings as scheduled.
- Prioritize the safety and well-being of all student-athletes.
- Previous cross country coaching or competitive running experience at the high school or collegiate level preferred.
- Knowledge of cross country training principles, techniques, and race strategy.
- Ability to motivate and inspire young athletes.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a coaching team.
- CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire).
- Familiarity with MSHSL rules and regulations is a plus.
