Summary

Scotty's Contracting and Stone is seeking a skilled and dependable Foreman to join our Heavy Civil Division. This position is responsible for overseeing work planning, material and truck scheduling, and the supervision of crew members and support staff (including flaggers). The ideal candidate will be safety-focused, quality-driven, and capable of managing productivity and project costs. This leadership role also requires regular professional interaction with the general public and transportation officials to ensure smooth and effective project execution.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate tasks and workflows based on project priorities and plans.
  • Develop and maintain daily and weekly crew schedules.
  • Assign responsibilities and delegate tasks to team members.
  • Supervise, mentor, and train crew members to ensure productivity and safety.
  • Ensure adequate manpower, materials, and equipment are available to meet project needs.
  • Enforce safety protocols and ensure adherence to quality standards.
  • Oversee the proper use and maintenance of machinery and equipment.
  • Identify and resolve jobsite issues in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Provide regular progress updates to project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders.
Qualifications
  • 2+ years of supervisory experience in heavy civil construction.
  • Ability to read blueprints, interpret grade stakes, and follow project plans.
  • Knowledge of DOT standards, OSHA regulations, and jobsite safety practices.
  • Skilled in coordinating crews, materials, and equipment to meet deadlines.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Valid driver's license.
Physical Requirements
  • Climbing:
    Ability to climb on and off mobile equipment greater than 6 feet off the ground on uneven terrain multiple times daily.
  • Heights:
    Ability to work safely at heights exceeding 10 feet.
  • Balance:
    Stand and walk on uneven, slick surfaces while carrying tasks.
  • Vision: 20/40 corrected vision to see moving safety hazards, equipment, vehicles, and obstructions.
  • Hearing:
    Corrected to hear verbal safety warnings and instructions.
  • Awkward positions:
    Ability to transition between standing, sitting, and kneeling as needed during inspections or task direction.
  • Heavy lifting:
    Capable of lifting up to 50 lbs. from floor to shoulders, and up to 100 lbs. with assistance.
  • Conditions:

    Outdoor work in a heavy civil construction environment with exposure to uneven, rocky terrain, dust, dirt, and varying weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, and rain.
Work Environment

This position is predominantly outdoors in various weather conditions. The Foreman role must be prepared for changing environmental conditions and able to adjust to the demands of an active construction site.

  • Physical stamina is required, as the role involves standing, climbing, and bending for extended periods.
  • Repeatedly climbing into and out of large heavy equipment that is more than 10 feet off the ground is an essential part of the job. Exposure to noise, dust, and heavy machinery in operation.

Safety gear, such as gloves, helmets, and protective eyewear, is essential during all operations. The selected candidate should be prepared to work in varying weather conditions with occasional physical tasks in challenging environments.
