Job Description

AECOM is seeking a motivated and technically strong Civil / Environmental Engineer to join our growing Water, Wastewater, and Conveyance team in Columbus, OH. The successful candidate will contribute to the planning, design, and delivery of municipal water and wastewater infrastructure projects throughout North America.

This role offers the opportunity to work on a diverse portfolio of projects including water transmission and distribution systems, wastewater collection systems, pump stations, force mains, treatment facilities, and other critical water infrastructure. The selected candidate will collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams while developing technical expertise and progressively taking on greater design and project responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare engineering designs, calculations, technical reports, specifications, and construction documents for municipal water and wastewater infrastructure projects.
  • Support the planning, design, and rehabilitation of water distribution systems, wastewater collection systems, force mains, gravity sewers, pump stations, and conveyance infrastructure.
  • Perform hydraulic calculations and system evaluations for water and wastewater networks.
  • Develop engineering drawings utilizing AutoCAD Civil 3D and other engineering software.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams including structural, mechanical, electrical, geotechnical, environmental, and construction professionals.
  • Assist with preparation of cost estimates, technical memorandums, feasibility studies, and engineering reports.
  • Participate in field investigations, site assessments, construction observations, and condition assessments as required.
  • Support permitting activities and ensure designs comply with applicable local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Review contractor submittals, respond to Requests for Information (RFIs), and provide engineering support during construction.
  • Maintain effective communication with project managers, clients, and internal project teams throughout project execution.
  • Contribute to delivering projects safely, on schedule, within budget, and to AECOM's quality standards.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
  • BS/BA in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a closely related discipline and 4+ years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
Preferred Qualifications
  • BS / BA and 8+ years of relevant experience.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain licensure within a reasonable timeframe.
  • Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Strong understanding of municipal utility design principles and engineering standards.
  • Experience preparing engineering calculations, technical reports, specifications, and construction documents.
  • Experience with water distribution, wastewater collection, pump station, and conveyance system design.
  • Experience performing hydraulic modeling using software such as WaterGEMS, SewerGEMS, Info Water Pro, Info Works ICM, Bentley Open Flows, or similar applications.
  • Familiarity with permitting requirements and municipal design standards.
  • Experience supporting projects from planning through construction.
  • Working knowledge of GIS applications.
  • Experience mentoring junior engineers or technical staff.
