Job DescriptionTITLE: Long-Term Substitute School Counselor
TYPE OF POSITION: Full-time (1.0); school year;
Anticipated start 8/31/26; salary $150.00-$294.63/day
LOCATION: High School, Hopkinton, Massachusetts
The School Counselor helps all students to explore and recognize strengths and weaknesses, develops self-esteem, teaches and assists students in decision-making, and supports students in times of personal and academic crisis. The School Counselor helps students overcome problems that impede learning.
DUTIES- Remains readily available to students so as to provide counseling that will lead each student to increased personal growth, self-understanding, and maturity;
- Works with students on an individual basis in the solution of personal problems related to such problems as home and family relations, health, and emotional adjustment, by working to discover and develop the special abilities of each student and working to resolve educational handicaps;
- Serves as the 504 and MCAS Coordinator;
- Serves as a resource to new students, and guides all students in their participation in school and community activities;
- Maintains and improves professional competence through attendance at professional development events, and by self-generated activities that meet district expectations and the requirements for re-certification;
- Shares responsibility for accomplishing the goals and priorities of his/her team by attending team evaluation meetings;
- Other duties, as assigned.
- Licensed, or eligible for licensure as a Guidance Counselor by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary & Secondary Education;
School Adjustment Counselor licensure preferred. - Bachelor's Degree, Master’s preferred, from an accredited college or university, in a related field;
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing, to children and adults;
- Commitment to remain current in content field, post-secondary opportunities, and clinical skills;
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and in conformity with state certification requirements.
