Job DescriptionThe Wellness (Physical Education/Health) Teacher will create a flexible, grade-appropriate physical education and wellness program and a class environment conducive to learning and personal growth. The teacher will establish rapport with students, motivate them, and develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge for lifelong wellness, tailoring instruction to each student's ability.
Duties- Teach health and physical fitness knowledge, maintain a safe environment, and employ safe practices during activities, following the district’s curriculum.
- Monitor student understanding and adjust instruction, materials, or assessments as needed.
- Stay current with the Massachusetts Comprehensive Health Curriculum Framework core concepts.
- Evaluate and implement innovative instructional strategies, including effective use of technology, to enhance student learning and confidence.
- Demonstrate appreciation for diversity and promote equitable learning opportunities.
- Maintain professional competence through professional development and self-directed activities that meet district and state recertification requirements.
- Participate in grade, team, department, and district committees as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Licensed or eligible for licensure in Health/Family & Consumer Sciences and Physical Education for the assigned grade(s) by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary & Secondary Education.
- Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) from an accredited college or university in a related field.
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, with children and adults.
- Commitment to remain current in content knowledge and teaching strategies.
- Alternative qualifications accepted by the Superintendent if conforming to state certification requirements.
