Job DescriptionProvides social‑emotional, behavioral, and instructional support and interventions to all students in all settings. Assists classroom and special education teachers, the Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), and other professional staff using Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and other appropriate methodologies to support students with a variety of disabilities. In the Extended School Year (ESY) program staff may also be required.
Responsibilities- Provide overall support to students and teachers based on classroom needs and the Individual Education Program (IEP) and 504 Plans, if applicable.
- Monitor student behavior as indicated in the IEP and Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP).
- Deliver discrete‑trial instruction to identified students and document outcomes and behavior data, including graphing when appropriate.
- Recognize when teaching, learning and behavioral strategies are not effective and seek guidance to adapt assistance.
- Apply knowledge of student learning styles, child development and skill acquisition rates; observe and record academic, behavioral and social data to measure progress.
- Provide support in crisis situations using district‑approved safety/restraint protocol when necessary.
- Offer verbal support, prompting, redirection and modeling to help students access curriculum activities.
- Assist with personal care for students, as required.
- Help conduct student assessments as directed by teachers or the Behavior Analyst.
- Perform other duties as required.
- Associate’s degree or successful completion of the Para Pro exam.
- Strong oral and written communication skills with children and adults.
- Experience and willingness to provide direct assistance with personal care to improve daily life skills.
- Training or experience in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) required; certification as a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) strongly preferred.
- License from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary & Secondary Education in a related field is a plus.
- Alternatives to the above qualifications may be considered by the Superintendent.
