Adult Services Librarian

The Town of Hopkinton is seeking an Adult Services Librarian to join our collaborative and community-focused Library team.

If you enjoy helping people find the right book, track down an elusive piece of information, navigate a new technology, discover a local history resource, or find a program that sparks a new interest, this may be the position for you.

Hopkinton Public Library is looking for a thoughtful, creative, and service-oriented librarian who enjoys working directly with the community and bringing ideas to life. Our Adult Services Librarian plays an important role in reference and readers’ advisory services, programming, collection development, technology assistance, local history, and community outreach.

Anticipated Hiring Range: $30.00 – $36.00 per hour, depending on qualifications

Full Position Range: $30.00 – $42.00 per hour

Schedule:

40 hours per week, including evening and weekend hours

Working under the direction of the Reference and Technology Supervisor, the Adult Services Librarian will:

• Provide reference and readers’ advisory services, helping patrons find, evaluate, and use information and resources.
• Develop engaging programs, presentations, displays, and special exhibits for adults and the broader community.
• Contribute to the development and maintenance of the Library’s adult collections, including selecting materials and evaluating collections to keep them relevant and responsive to community interests.
• Help patrons confidently use Library technology, databases, digital resources, and other information tools.
• Maintain and support access to the Library’s local history room and archives.
• Build relationships with community organizations and partners and help connect people with Library programs, resources, and services.
• Identify new ideas and opportunities to strengthen Adult Services programs, resources, procedures, and technology.
• Work collaboratively across the Library and contribute to Library-wide programs, initiatives, and public service.

This is a professional librarian position that offers meaningful independence and the opportunity to bring initiative, creativity, and sound judgment to your work. You’ll be part of a supportive team while also having the opportunity to take ownership of your work and contribute ideas that help the Library continue to grow and respond to its community.

Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited program and one (1) to three (3) years of progressively responsible library experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Strong reference, research, and information-literacy skills.

Knowledge of public library services, readers’ advisory, collection development, and digital resources.

Comfort learning and using technology and helping others do the same.

Excellent customer service and communication skills.

The ability to balance multiple responsibilities, exercise sound judgment, take initiative, and work both independently and collaboratively.

A genuine interest in connecting people with information, resources, programs, and one another.

Occasional attendance at meetings, programs, training, or community activities outside the Library may also be required.
