Hours:

Not to exceed 19 hours for half days, 35 hours for full days


Half Day (3.5 Hours):
Monday - Friday 8:15 am - 11:15 am

Full Day:
Monday - Friday 8:15 am - 2:45 pm

Hours may be added if more students register

Note - Preference will be given to internal candidates first.

Job Summary:
The Hoquiam School District is seeking a compassionate, collaborative, and dependable Para educator to support the Kinder Kamp summer learning program. This role is designed for individuals who are passionate about early childhood education and are committed to fostering a nurturing, engaging, and supportive environment. Aligned with our district's pillars-Meaningful Relationships, Engaged Learners, Adaptive Pathways, and Community Connections-the Kinder Kamp Para educator plays a vital role in preparing students for a successful transition into elementary school.

Key Responsibilities:

Meaningful Relationships:
  • Build trust and rapport with students, creating a warm, welcoming environment where all children feel seen and supported.
  • Collaborate closely with the classroom teacher to provide consistent, positive reinforcement and encourage social-emotional growth.
  • Support student drop-off and pick-up routines while maintaining clear and friendly communication with families.
Engaged Learners:
  • Assist with implementing developmentally appropriate school readiness activities that spark curiosity and joy in learning.
  • Engage actively with students during instruction, play-based learning, and enrichment tasks.
  • Encourage student participation and independence through structured routines and guided support.
Adaptive Pathways:
  • Help adapt learning materials and approaches based on individual student needs in partnership with the certificated teacher.
  • Monitor student progress and behavior; assist in tracking student data for growth and planning purposes.
  • Offer flexible and responsive support to meet a range of student learning styles and needs.
Community Connections:
  • Model and reinforce positive behaviors that reflect shared community values within the classroom.
  • Support communication between the classroom and families, helping bridge home-school connections.
  • Participate in a team-oriented culture that emphasizes inclusivity, equity, and access for all students-especially those impacted by poverty or other barriers.
Qualifications:
  • Experience working with Kindergarten students (preferred).
  • Demonstrated experience managing student behavior in a school setting.
  • Knowledge of challenges faced by students and families living in poverty.
  • Ability to work respectfully and collaboratively with teachers, students, and families.
  • Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with Google Suite (Docs, Sheets, Drive, Gmail).
  • Knowledge of or ability to learn instructional technology used in the classroom.
Working Conditions:
  • Work is performed primarily in a classroom setting with occasional outdoor supervision for recess, transitions, or activities.
  • May involve extended periods of standing, walking, bending, or lifting up to 25 pounds.
  • Frequent interaction with young children requiring patience, attentiveness, and physical proximity.
  • Exposure to noise, movement, and dynamic classroom environments.
  • May be required to assist students with physical, medical, or behavioral needs.
  • Must be adaptable and able to respond calmly and effectively in a fast-paced and occasionally unpredictable environment.
Salary: Per CBA

Employment is contingent upon successful clearance of a Washington State Patrol, FBI fingerprint criminal history background check, and Sexual Misconduct background check.
