Note - This is a 180 day position that follows the PSE contract with an additional 8 days total for pre/post school year.

Position Overview: The Hoquiam School District is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Districtwide Nurse to join our team, supporting students and staff across the district. This role is built upon our four key pillars:

Meaningful Relationships:
  • Foster trusting and supportive relationships with students, families, and staff to promote a healthy school environment.
  • Collaborate with educators and administrators to address students' physical, emotional, and social health needs.
  • Serve as a compassionate resource and advocate for students, ensuring individualized care and attention.
Engaged Learners:
  • Provide health education to students, covering topics such as personal hygiene, nutrition, first aid, and human growth and development.
  • Support students in managing chronic conditions, ensuring they can fully engage in their educational experience.
  • Empower students to take charge of their health through personalized care plans and education.
Adaptive Pathways:
  • Develop and implement individualized health plans for students with unique medical needs.
  • Adapt health services and interventions to meet the diverse needs of the student population.
  • Train staff in administering medications and handling health-related emergencies, ensuring a responsive support network.
Community Connections:
  • Coordinate with local health agencies and community organizations to provide additional resources and support for students and families.
  • Facilitate communication between the school, families, and healthcare providers to create a seamless network of care.
  • Organize and lead community health initiatives, such as vaccination clinics and health screenings.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree (BA or BS) preferred.
  • Valid RN license and Washington driver's license required.
  • Experience as a school nurse or related training preferred.
  • Strong organizational and collaboration skills.
Essential Duties:
  • Be capable of working extended hours.
  • Be capable of being mobile to move throughout the school facility and grounds for an estimated four to seven hours daily.
  • Be capable of sitting for at least one to two hours at a time while attending meetings, seminars, daily job duties and other related scheduled activities. May have the availability to alternate sitting and standing activities.
  • Be capable of communicating both verbally and in written form.
  • Have adequate hearing and visual acuity to communicate with students, parents, administrators, community representatives and staff without difficulty.
  • Have the ability to constantly lift and carry objects weighing 0-10 pounds, 11-24 pounds occasionally, and 25-50 pounds or more on a rare basis. May be required to lift students in an emergency situation rarely. Most lifting consists of books, supplies, AV equipment and computer technology.
  • Be able to make judgments and decisions quickly and accurately on-the-spot.
  • Perform a variety of duties and multiple tasks without hesitation when dealing with the safety of students.
  • Adaptability to performing under stress when confronted with emergency, critical and unusual situations.
  • Ability to work under stress or tension as a frequent, consistent part of the job.
    • Rarely: activity or condition exists 0-5% of the time.
    • Occasionally: activity or condition exists up to 1/3 of the time.
    • Frequently: activity or condition exists from 1/3 - 2/3 of the time.
    • Constantly: activity or condition exists from 2/3 or more of the time.
