Position Summary

The High School Science Teacher is responsible for providing engaging, standards-based science instruction to students in grades 9-12. The successful candidate creates meaningful learning experiences that foster scientific inquiry, critical thinking, problem-solving, and real-world application of scientific concepts. Through strong relationships, innovative instructional practices, and collaboration with students, families, colleagues, and community partners, the teacher supports all learners in achieving academic success and preparing for future pathways.

The ideal candidate embraces inquiry-based science instruction, promotes student engagement, utilizes data-informed instructional practices, and contributes positively to the culture and mission of the Hoquiam School District.

Meaningful Relationships

* Communicate effectively and consistently with families regarding student progress, achievements, and areas for growth.

* Foster a classroom culture characterized by respect, responsibility, and high expectations.

* Design and implement science instruction aligned with district curriculum, Washington State Learning Standards, and course expectations.

* Differentiate instruction and assessment to address diverse learning needs, abilities, interests, and goals.

* Utilize formative and summative assessment practices to monitor student progress and inform instructional decisions.

* Apply Assessment for Learning principles to support student ownership of learning and academic growth.

* Implement interventions and supports that help students overcome barriers and achieve success.

* Utilize technology and innovative instructional strategies to enhance learning opportunities and accessibility.

Engaged Learners

* Deliver engaging, inquiry-based science instruction that promotes curiosity, exploration, and scientific thinking.

* Incorporate higher-order thinking, problem-solving, collaboration, and real-world applications into classroom instruction.

* Use a variety of instructional methods and learning experiences to maximize student engagement and achievement.

* Create opportunities for students to actively participate in scientific investigations, experimentation, and discovery.

* Maintain accurate records of student attendance, achievement, and progress.

* Demonstrate enthusiasm, flexibility, and a commitment to continuous improvement in instructional practice.

* Participate actively in professional learning opportunities and collaborative staff initiatives.

Community Connections

* Sponsor, organize, and facilitate an annual Grades 9-12 Science Fair that showcases student learning and achievement.

* Develop connections between classroom learning and real-world scientific applications, careers, and community resources.

* Partner with families, local organizations, businesses, and community members to enrich student learning experiences when appropriate.

* Participate in faculty meetings, school improvement initiatives, and district activities that strengthen school-community partnerships.

* Represent the district positively and professionally within the school and broader community.

Qualifications

Required
