Position Overview
At Hoquiam School District, we believe that shared leadership and collective action drive meaningful school improvement. As a member of the Building Leadership Team (BLT), you will serve as a collaborative leader, helping to guide and sustain strategic implementation of our School Improvement Plan (SIP) in alignment with our district's vision for Meaningful Relationships, Engaged Learners, Adaptive Pathways, and Community Connections.
BLT members work beyond their daily classroom or departmental responsibilities to enhance the overall effectiveness and culture of the school.
Purpose
The Building Leadership Team exists to foster collective efficacy and build site-based capacity to implement evidence-based practices that lead to long-term student success. BLT members support the District Improvement Plan, promote a positive school climate, and ensure high-leverage practices are implemented with fidelity across all tiers
Core Responsibilities
Meaningful Relationships
* Build trust and collaboration among staff by modeling inclusive leadership, active listening, and shared responsibility.
* Strengthen team culture by fostering a supportive, solutions-oriented environment that values all voices.
* Serve as a connector between school leadership, teaching staff, and broader school community.
Engaged Learners
* Collaborate on the development and progress monitoring of the School Improvement Plan, including the Problem of Practice and Theory of Action.
* Analyze student outcome data and Tier 1 implementation data to identify instructional priorities.
* Identify school wide Tier 1 instructional strategies and success criteria based on evidence and student needs.
* Support professional development that ensures all students benefit from high-quality instruction.
Adaptive Pathways
* Assist in creating and executing an action plan that ensures fidelity of Tier 1 implementation and provides access to training and coaching for staff.
* Participate in assessing school wide professional learning needs and align them with SIP goals.
* Lead or support roles such as facilitator, timekeeper, data coordinator, note-taker, or general team member to ensure productive, results-driven meetings.
* Use data analysis (fidelity tools, student progress, intervention outcomes) to adjust practices and guide decision-making.
Community Connections
* Communicate effectively with families, community members, and the school board about student progress and the impact of school improvement efforts.
* Present the SIP and updates to the school board and other stakeholders.
* Collaborate to develop communication strategies that ensure transparency and community engagement in student success.
Qualifications & Expectations
* Demonstrated commitment to equity, student achievement, and inclusive school culture.
* Ability to collaborate effectively with peers, administrators, and community members.
* Strong communication, data analysis, and facilitation skills.
* Willingness to learn and lead with humility, purpose, and a growth mindset.
* Experience with or strong interest in school improvement, MTSS implementation, or Tier 1 instructional leadership is preferred.
Time Commitment & Compensation
* Meet approximately 9-12 times annually, totaling about 40 hours per year.
* Engage in professional learning and collaborative leadership during and outside of regular contracted hours.
* Stipend: $1500/year in recognition of responsibilities performed beyond contracted duties.
Employment is contingent upon successful clearance of a Washington State Patrol, FBI fingerprint criminal history background check, and Sexual Misconduct background check.
