Position Status:
This is a non-permanent position. The expected duration of this position is 5 months from the time the employee starts.
Under the supervision of the Construction & Maintenance Supervisor, the Maintenance Mechanic 1 independently performs a variety of responsibilities that include general maintenance, repair, remodeling, and construction duties. This position will utilize a working knowledge of several related skills, such as electrical, plumbing, carpentry, welding, painting, and machinist work. This position will also install, repair, inspect, and maintain physical facilities (i.e., buildings, facilities, and grounds), machinery, and equipment within the Northern Shores Park Area.
This position is not eligible to telework, as physical on-site presence is required to perform essential functions. The Northern Shores Area is based out of Ocean City State Park, located just north of Ocean Shores, WA. Our area includes two beachfront camping parks, several beach access roads with facilities, miles of beach accessible by vehicle, as well as two additional camping parks in an inland forest setting.
The Maintenance Mechanic 1 works as part of the operations team to maintain and improve these facilities.

Duties include but are not limited to:
- Performs general work in maintenance, repair, remodel, and alteration in construction and maintenance of area facilities, ground, vehicles, and equipment.
- Performs preventative maintenance to park buildings and other park facilities.
- Maintains and repairs irrigation, plumbing, and sewage systems with the ability to provide minor electrical repairs.
- Coordinates with management, other employees, region crews, and other area maintenance crews during maintenance and repair projects.
- Maintains health and safety standards.
Required Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Two (2) years of general work experience in building and equipment maintenance, construction, or repair work.
And:
- Valid unrestricted (except corrective lenses) driver's license.
Desired
Qualifications:
- Experience working in State Parks or similar parks and recreation entity.
- Entry level experience driving and operating a variety of vehicles and equipment.
- Experience leading and/or supervising lower-level staff.
- Knowledge and experience in the use of Microsoft Office products, such as Outlook, Excel, and Word.
- Knowledge and experience working with various hand & power tools.

Requirements:
Uniform Information:
All Maintenance Mechanic 1 employees are required to wear a uniform. A complete and properly worn uniform helps establish the professional identity of a Maintenance Mechanic and promotes respect as a Washington State Parks employee. All non-permanent Maintenance Mechanic 1s will receive 2 shirts, 2 outerwear (heavy duty hoodie/fleece jacket), a safety vest, a ball cap, beanie/knit cap, and a brim hat.
Working Conditions:
Work schedule is 8 hours per day, five (5) days a week, Monday through Friday. Typical work hours are from 8:00 a.m.
- 5:00 p.m. Incumbent may be expected to adjust work schedule to meet business needs and must maintain regular and reliable attendance to accommodate office and customer demands. A flexible work schedule may be considered at the incumbent's request and is subject to supervisory approval. This position may be required to travel between parks and/or statewide for meetings, training, and other field work.
