The Department Mentor will support communication and alignment within the department. This role involves mentoring new teachers within the department, monitoring and maintaining alignment of campus initiatives, goals, and communication within the department. The Department Mentor will receive leadership support from the Instructional Facilitator and report to the Assistant Principal/Principal.

Work Schedule & Hours
  • 192 days
  • 1 coordinating period to complete department mentor leadership responsibilities
  • 1 conference period to complete teaching responsibilities, as provided to all teachers
Teacher Pay Scale
  • $1,500 stipend + pay for 5 extra contract days
  • Extra duty pay available for non-contracted days when needed for professional development or tutoring
Opportunities for Additional Compensation
  • $1,000 stipend if supporting a 1st or 2nd year teacher designated as part of Texas Mentorship Training Program.
  • Additional extra duty pay will be provided for teaching intersession and/or tutoring after school.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Content-based certifications preferred
  • 3+ years in content area preferred
  • Candidate must have at least 3 years of exemplary teaching experience
  • A minimum of proficiency in each of the T-TESS dimensions or out of state equivalent
  • Educational coaching background preferred
  • Teacher Incentive Allotment (TIA) Designation preferred
Professional Knowledge / Skills
  • Disciplined time management

  • Effective organization and communication skills
  • Extensive understanding of state-mandated knowledge and skills
  • Capacity to work with students and educators
  • Ability to take and provide honest and direct feedback
