Description
Staff Accountant – General Accounting
Reports to:Supervisor – General Accounting
Contributes to:General Accounting team
Responsibilities- Execute the more complex General Accounting activities within the financial month-end close cycle on time and at a high-level of quality and accuracy. This General Accounting team is the primary group responsible for the month-end financial close process, including recording the majority of journal entries, accruals/estimates and performing account reconciliations.
- Prepare journal entries for review by the General Accounting Supervisor and/or Manager, including equity method investments, royalty calculations, and various accruals.
- Prepare required account reconciliations timely and accurately, for review by the General Accounting Supervisor and/or Manager.
- Fulfill external auditor requests and questions, particularly through the year-end reporting cycle.
- Identify and communicate efficiency opportunities within the monthly financial close, account reconciliation and financial reporting processes; supporting our department’s core mission to modernize and streamline these processes.
- Handle other responsibilities, as needed, such as project/system implementation support.
- BS in Accounting.
- CPA (Preferred, but not required).
- Minimum of 2 years in accounting (or similar) experience with increasing responsibilities directly involved in the financial close process; additional/more senior experience preferred.
- Large, public company experience is a plus.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Teachable attitude / willingness to learn.
- Able to contribute creatively to a vision of “what could be”, not just focused on “what is/has been”.
- Ability to execute tasks within a project plan on time and at a high-level of quality.
- Ability to review problems and formulate solutions.
- Experience using modern ERP’s such as SAP or Oracle is preferred.
- Good social skills in dealing with internal personnel, auditors, etc.
